ORLANDO, Fla. - There was hardly a run on snow shovels, but a few flakes of the white stuff hit the ground in Orlando for the first time since 2003, meteorologists said.

The flakes mixed with rain fell Tuesday night in the central Florida hometown of Walt Disney World, National Weather Service meteorologist John Pendergrast said.

"It's just cold enough in the lower levels of the atmosphere" to keep the flakes from melting, he said.

The last time the region saw snow was in 2003, when flakes fell over Brevard and Volusia counties.

Temperatures in the area Tuesday night dipped to the low 40s, with cold weather in the area expected through Thanksgiving.

THAT WOULD BE SWEET TO BE IN THE world FOR SNOW

Hey -- just go on Main St or to the Osborne Lights to see snow in WDW. :rotfl2:
This is cold for us. I didn't see any snow. But I heard it on the news that people were reporting it in the area.
bbrrrrrrrr

If I leave Buffalo to go to WDW in the winter I don't want to see snow at all! LOL!

Freaky weather...we have temps in the 50's up north here the next few days...no snow in the forecast at all.

I was there for the "snow" and very very cold weather in January 2003. Now, I'm going to be there from December 13 - 16 so the weather is just getting ready for me.

(I had to put snow in quotes because, while it was real snow, it was less than a flurry. It's the type of snow that in most cities in the U.S., you would squint and look at it and say, I think it might be snowing but I'm not sure. In Central Florida (at least in 2003), however, everyone went crazy over it, stopping in their paths to look more closely, and it led all of the local newscasts that night.)

No big deal. when conditions are just right, this does happen here periodically. :)

NOOOOO!
Those of us who moved out of the Northeast to get away from the cold and snow don't want to see it south of, say, the Mason-Dixon line (I'm in Austin, TX). EVER.

The year I moved here it snowed Christmas Day in Houston. If it snowed here I was going to cry. My wife can verify that. :p

I don't know if snow officially fell at WDW. North of Orlando they did report some snow mixed with rain, despite temperatures near 40. The temps at WDW were in the low to mid 40's.

Yep, he was ready to cry. ::yes::

:p

I'm so jealous! First of all, snow at WDW and second of all we haven't even had snow up here in my part of PA! Love the thought of snow at WDW though!!!!! :teeth:

I was there that night and while I didn't see any (really wasn't looking for any) I DO BELIEVE it did. I know it was cold enough too!!! It was also that nasty wet cold that you get when it snows down south. We were suppose to go to Fantasmic that night but because it was SOOO cold and we had seen it last year we decided to take a quick walk through the Osborne Lights and head home early to see Wishes from the warm hotel room at the CR! My mom called me the next morning though and said it was all over the national news there!

Snow would be fun if it was the first time I saw snow in a season, like around now...

If it was later in Februaray and I took a vacation I would be pretty pissed if there was snow

I moved here to get away from the stuff. A couple years ago they had all kinds of news reports when Melbourne, FL got some flurries. They showed people out on their lawns actings like idiots making snow angels...in the dirt. :confused3
