Here in the sunny South, my kids will be enjoying their eighth snow day tomorrow, thanks to the ice storm we got Sunday. Alas, they will be going to school on March 13 and 14, previously a four-day weekend that coincided with our college student son's spring break. So, our nice little bonus Disney trip is no more -- and it was even during the AP nights at MGM! Oh, well . . . the $ will go toward our June trip, which will make it that much better.

what a bummer- at least you'll have that extra money for your next trip. I hope your kids aren't too disappointed!

Sorry about your trip, but glad you have a positive outlook and another trip coming!
My SIL in NC told me that her kids had today off, and are now up to 5 days to make up--they have year-round school, and for every makeup day they go on a Saturday morning!!
Since they moved to NC in 93 they have had at least one good icing every year, and a snowstorm every other year. You'd think they'd figure it out and build some snow days into the calendar. Here in Ohio we have 5 snow days--if we use them, fine, but if we don't we do NOT get out early. My district has used 2 so far--am secretly hoping for another one tomorrow, but only 5" of snow here and they have 12 more hours to clean it up.

:( I'm sorry. I'm so glad you still have a trip in June, though :)

Rock 'n Robin -- Hard to believe you don't get out early if you don't use all your snow days. Here, teacher workdays or holidays are used as snow days. Everyone knows that all days must be made up, and you know which days are vulnerable up to a point -- we usually don't miss this many days. There's usually a plan for about three -- after that, the school board attacks the calendar. We lost two four-day weekends (President's Day and the one in mid-March) and a day of spring break. The strange thing they did this time was to take Memorial Day after the last snow, then give it back after receiving so many complaints. It's a shame to have kids in school that day, but from an educational standpoint, it's a lousy time for a holiday since our last day of school is that Wednesday.

Five inches of snow would probably close our schools for a week!

I have my 5th snow day tomorrow! Yippee! But this will make my kids 6th. They will probably add it onto the end of the school year or they might take Good Friday since our spring breaks are in March. Spring Break is usually the last option.

NC completely closes down on snow days doesn't it. My school sent a team of teachers to the Raleigh area in January and there happened to be a snow day while they were there. They said even the mall was closed and they were stuck in the hotel with nothing to do. Like I really felt sorry for them when I was back home working. ;)

We just don't have the snow removal equipment to handle more than a few inches of snow, and the snow in January exceeded that. We've now missed 6 days because of snow and ice, and have made up 2, with 2 more scheduled before spring break--which means we lose several days at break--we have ressies at hilton head, but now I'm not sure what we'll be doing-taking DD out of school or not?

This is the first year my kids had a spring break that wasn't the week before or after Easter. We actually thought we might be able to make a spring trip to Disney. Alas, spring break was the first thing lost to the snow days and it was all lost several snow days ago:eek: I'm thinking the four-day Easter weekend will be the next to go.

I'm so sorry to hear that! You could always just pull the kids out of school. I'm sure a lot of other families will be doing that as well!

We've only had TWO (including tomorrow in advance) snowdays here in NH. How ironic!! And the funny part is, we're flying via Charlotte on Friday. We picked a connection in Charlotte rather than PIT, or Chicago, or Washington, as we thought we'd be LESS likely to have snow delays through a "southern" airport.

I hope it stands true anyway!

What a bummer! I say go anyway!
