snow day--3rd in a week.

We only get 5 snow days where I work. We used one Wednesday (my kids didn't use one; they had a 2 hour delay). We all had one on Friday. Now my kids are on vacation, but I am supposed to be teaching today and tomorrow. I hope Jan/Feb. are mild or we'll go over again and I'll be going later than my kids, although I start a week earlier.
I'm hearing it's too cold to warm up the building and the salt isn't working on the sidewalks. It's 25 below wind chill but should warm up tomorrow. So I'll work on cookies---take my dad to the store at 2PM--and take DD#2 to the ortho at 4 because my golden ate one of her retainers!

Where are you? In the Twin Cities, MN we are supposed to get 3 MORE inches of snow tonight in addition to the blast we got on Saturday. The wind chill is so cold I won't look at it and it was -13 this morning. No snow day here...but I'm thinking seriously about closing our business and moving to Epcot soon!

We are in Vermont and have had only one snow day so far. The kids are supposed to have started their winter break today, but are making up the snow day so we don't have to be in school until the end of June again this year.

Stop bragging!!

Seriously, why it's kind of nice to have the unexpected days off right before Christmas, it is early in the season to have used so many. Might get dicey come February.

We don't have snow days built into our calendar and so have to make up any we take in June. At the time I enjoy it, but always complain in June when we're making them up, especially since I'm on a 220 student day school year and only get 1 week off in June before having to start the summer session.

Wow! 220 student days! I can see why you'd like a snow day once in a while! We have 180 days plus 5 teacher workshops, in-services, etc. for a total of 185.
Just got a call from my department head. We are on a 2 hour delay tomorrow with a staff meeting at 9:30. We were supposed to have exams Friday, today and tomorrow. Now I guess they have decided to cancel exams and just average out the 2 quarter grades. This means I'll have all of my classes tomorrow with absolutely nothing to do because the quarter starts Jan. 6!
I wish we would go back to having exams in mid-January. It was so much easier!
Oh and I'm in NW Ohio. We may get a little messy weather tomorrow night, but rain by Wednesday--just hope it doesn't wash the snow away for Christmas! And right now it's 10 degrees with a wind chill of minus 8.

220 student contact days (plus 3 in-service days) is what happens when you work with the "bad" kids. Only 5 of us in the entire district are on this schedule...lucky me.

The rest of the district did away with true mid-term exams awhile ago. Final exams are up to the teacher's discretion.
