Tuesday my DD age 13 and I exited Haunted Mansion and sat down on a bench to consider our next move. Around five minutes later she raised her arm to put it on the back of the bench, screamed, and jumped up. A snake approx. three foot long had crawled onto the back of the bench while we sat there. The first CM we attempted to show ignored us and kept walking. The second came over, looked at the snake and remarked that it really wasn't unusual. Wow! We have been to WDW six times in the last two years and we sure thought it was unusual. Guess we should remember Disneyworld was built in a low area. :sad2:

Wow! I would have been freaking out too! lol, (note to self: Stay away from benches!) lol :p

Aww c'mon... snakes can be great. I'd much rather have a snake than mice or rats. Would prolly be startling though to just see it randomly. :grouphug: Hope you weren't scarred for life.

^ Man I would have had a heart attack! I'm terrified of snakes! :scared1: ::yes:: :scared:

OMG........I would scream.. ..and run away... :guilty: ..far away.... :p .lol j/p....
hope u had fun though.! :wizard:

Well, there are 45 types of Florida snakes. Only 6 are venomous and, of those, only 4 could possibly be found in C. Florida. So, odds are very very low that anyone in WDW is in any danger. I know that's not a comfort to some of you.

Can you remember what it looked like? I might be able to tell you what it was.

Again, sorry you were startled! :grouphug:

:scared1: I would've had a heart attack!! I freaked out when I saw the little lizards everywhere, can't imagine if I saw a 3 foot long snake OMG! OMG!!Gives me shivers---I probably would have beat it to death with my husband!! :teeth:

we've had a number of snake encounters at WDW, some a bit more unnerving than others.....like the snake that scurried across between our feet as we ran up the stairs at blizzard beach....we were the first on the stairs that morning and i guess we were too fast for the snake to get out of the way in time for the morning rush....

What you failed to realize was that is part of the attraction. I sit at that bench all the time. It is an animatronic snake put there purposly there to scare people. It does look real, but so does lucky the dinosaur.

DS7 and I were at WDW on 5/26-30 and we saw 2 snakes while we were there. I was surprised to see them since we had never before seen snakes at WDW. One was on Tom Sawyer's Island (I was continually scanning the ground for paintbrushes, otherwise I'd never have seen it) and the other was at Animal Kingdom. It was making a bee-line across the sidewalk by the Dinosaur area. I'm scared sXXXless of snakes and this was pretty freaky to me! They were both 2-3 foot long and skinny black snakes.

yes, we've only seen black snakes as well. Lots of them at Animal Kingdom (both inside and outside by the bushes of the parking lot) and that time in Blizzard Beach.

All I can say is that if we see a snake it will ABSOLUTELY MAKE my DS8's vacation! The umm DD4 however might not be so excited.

DD was thrilled to see her first snake last year at POFQ. We saw others at AK. The black skinny ones are racers and are harmless. I actually like snakes. :cool1:

OK, now I don't want to go to WDW next week! I've only seen snakes at a distance in FL, only twice in about 15 trips, never in the parks. AARRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!! this will NOT be magic and pixie dust for me, let me tell you!!!

I agree with Disneymagic. I would've fallen down in a dead heap and that would've been that. Thanks for the warning. I will be more alert from now on.

I"m not snake-phobic, but if I put my arm on one that wuold pretty much make my heart stop. Sorry, I'm not buying the animatronic snake theory. WDW was built on swampy low lands and I'm sure there are plenty of critters, but I just don't want to sit with one in the parks.

Live snake not a problem from me, dead rat in the queue of the family raft ride at Typhoon lagoon..now that grosses me out.
