Just curious, trying to decide which snacks to take with us in the car. I already have Crunch and Munch and Pringles. Two snacks we always take. Crunch and Munch is a sentimental fav., I went on road trips with my Grandparents all the time as a child and they always had Crunch and Munch. Just curious which snacks, are must haves for road trips, of fellow disers. :sunny:

Kraft cheese has a nice thing where they have cheese and crackers in one container. There are also Mickey Mouse shaped cookies and graham crackers. ::MickeyMo :earsboy:

We drove down from Maine to Florida (28 hours non-stop) and we stocked up on trail Mix, slim jims, those little cracker things with the orange cheese and the red stick to spread it on, sunflower seeds, and granola bars.

Me and my DH and DS drove down 3 out of the last 4 years. Our trunk looked like a supermarket. We had pop tarts, small boxes of cereal anything small and compact we had it. We had a small cooler with some fruit and drinks
if they like pudding in those tubes or yogurt.

There's no eating in our car...so usually we don't bring snacks...unless it is to keep in the hotel room. When everyone decides it's time to eat...we just stop somewhere for a meal.

In a small cooler between my & DH's seats, we have a couple of bottles of water, a couple of cokes, some juice boxes or small bottles of juice like Sunny-D, & normally some kind of fruit like grapes. Since the cooler's small & will only hold so much, we have more drinks in the back of the van that we'll replenish our cooler w/ along the drive.

At my feet, I normally have a bag that contains snacks for the trip like Handi-snacks (those little packages w/ crackers & cheese that you spread w/ the little red sticks), fruit roll-ups & bags of those bite-size gummy fruit snacks, sunflower seeds for DH, oatmeal or chocolate chip cookies, & zip-lock bags of our special "road-trip" snack mix - which is snack mix that I make just for our road trips. LOL! It's not really all that special - just a mix of M & M's, Golden Graham cereal, Cheerios cereal, pretzels, dried fruit, & anything else I feel like including.

We stop in St. Augustine on our way to WDW for some "beach time" - last year, we stopped for 1 night on the way down & 1 night on the way back from WDW. This year, we're stopping for 3 nights on the way down & not stopping on the way back up. Anyway, our drive from TN to St. Augustine is normally about 7 & 1/2 hours. We leave around 4:30 am, stop for a picnic breakfast somewhere in southern GA at a rest area, and arrive in St. Augustine by lunch time, so we normally don't eat a lot of snacks on the way down. We probably eat more snacks on the drive home.

For our picnic breakfast, we have ham & biscuits, grapes, yogurt, juice, & coffee (for DH & me). I put a package of lunch meat ham in the cooler along w/ some small individual-size containers of yogurt. I bake some frozen biscuits in the oven before we leave home. When they come out of the oven, I wrap them in aluminum foil first & then wrap them in a towel before putting them in a basket. When we stop for breakfast, while they're not still hot, they're not cold yet either. This year, DH wants to pack small boxes of cereal along w/ some small cartons of milk too.

We also always have a thermos of coffee for DH & me! We gotta have our coffee!!

I make up little baggies for my kids...with goldfish, mini ritz crackers with cheese...anything really. That way, they each have their own bags and we don't have fighting. We also take fruit snacks, granola bars, raisins, go-gurt, grapes, and string cheese.

Cheezits and Animal Crackers. A couple bottles of water and something caffeinated.

Pringles are a must have when we drive. Actually, anything in a resealable container is ok. No bags of chips or whatever. We all also have a drink or 2 (water, soda, coffee) in the car.
We tend to stop quite often (small bladder + coffee = rest stops) so we dont over stock the car with too much stuff. If one of is hungry we either grab a meal or a quick snack at the rest stops.

What about car entertainment? DS uses the portable DVD player. DH just got a movie Ipod, so he burned a few DVD's for me to watch on that.
I cant read a book in the car or I get carsick. Although I can do some puzzles or page through magazines. My secret indulgence is I read the really tacky tabloids (Weekly World News, etc) during road trips ;)

My son is a MAJOR snacker! We take club crackers, animal crackers, fig newtons, cheez-its, teddy grahams, fruit cups and grapes. Oh, and fiddle faddle and sour cherry balls for me!

Ooooooo...I love this thread. It speaks of food! Next to Disney, food is my favorite thing.

We almost always have at least one or two cans of pringles. If we're staying onsite, I don't pack a cooler since we'll have a fridge in the room..it also takes up too much space. So, we usually just get drinks when we eat meals and at rest areas. We do, however, pack a case of water and drink alot of that. We have to have something sweet AND something salty, so I also pack cookies of some sort, sometimes homemade. DH likes to bring jerky along too. There's always a bag of snacks at my feet, but it just varies as to what's in it. Always Pringles, always cookies....and I am a rest area vending machine addict so I almost always have to get something when we stop(its a horrible sickness).

For DS5 I bring cheeze-its, goldfish, fruit juice gummi bears, milk& cereal bars/granola bars and water or clear juice. DH and I usually pack beef jerky and some sort of small chocolate.

We don't drive, but we do bring along goodies when we fly. I bring fresh donuts for the 1st part of the trip. They will get messy & sticky if you keep them too long. Cookies and pop tarts are also along with us.

Have fun on your trip!

Ooh I love this thread-it reminds me of all the interesting food you eat over there-We only have Pringles in the UK and they're really boring flavours :guilty: Whats those pringle-y type things in the rigid blue tubes-I really like those  and those "Chex" (?) things and I LOVE tropical fruit skittles in the blue bags-we don't get those at home, so I always have to bring them back for my nephews. Weird thing is, they get more excited over the sweets than they do the Disney pressies! I am a truly wonderful Auntie Hobbes :grouphug:

Fruit roll ups and gummy bears
Powerade/water/soda
chips-usually Meijer barbeque
pretzels

then a stop halfway for fresh fruits-apples/oranges/berries/bananas for that natural sugar "pick me up"

We travel through the night so dinner is before we leave, breakfast is usually a Cracker Barrel somewhere in Florida.

We only have about a 2 hour drive but we still bring drinks, nuts, goldfish, cheerios - things like that...then we also have them for the room.

We pack most of our snacks, meals, and drinks for long drives, so we only stop for gas or to sleep; we may do one McDonalds breakfast when we crave something hot.

For a 2 day drive, I'm likely to pack:
- a case of water bottles
- six pack or more of individual OJs
- 3 sandwichs per day per person, (some of which will be bagels and cream cheese because they hold up better and are nicer for breakfast)
- celery sticks
- baby carrots
- cucumber and red pepper slices
- cheese sticks
- deviled eggs
- gogurts
- fruit
- goldfish crackers
- dried apricots
- chips
- cookies
- gum and mints (for when you feel like eating out of boredom, rather than hunger :rolleyes1 )

We take a large cooler in the way back of the van with most of the food; the drinks go in a smaller cooler between the front seats.

We tend to eat more junk food than we are used to when we travel...chips from the rest area stops, etc....so I try to pack healthier options for the car to save us from indigestion.

I agree with the poster who said you have to have something sweet and something salty. :thumbsup2

We drive from NY in two days. We do about 12 hours the first day and about 8 the next. We fill a soft sided cooler with food and drinks. So the first day we leave at 4am and we have...

BREAKFAST
~Bagels and Cream Cheese
Travel Cups with tea/coffee
bottled water

LUNCH
~Sandwiches made the night before and refridgerated
Cokes, bottled water
Pringles
Cookies for dessert

~Snacks
Pringles
Cookies
Chex Mix
Pretzels
M&M with peanuts
Bottled water/Cokes

~Dinner
Restaurant near the hotel in Florence SC where we stop the first night.

We will be driving about 19 hours straight through so I pack heavy!

I'll bring a case each of Dr Pepper and Sprite for DS and DH and a case of diet Dr Pepper and maybe diet Pepsi for DD and me. Part of these will go int the cooler and part will go in the hotel room for the week since I SWORE I would not spend $48 on refillable mugs this time!

For snacks I always bring two different kinds of homemade cookies, made the night before since I'll be too excited to sleep anyway.
DH has got to have Cheetos and kids have to have Pringles. I've got to have Chex mix. We also like crackers and peanut butter and "cheese-in-a-can". DD likes applesauce and pineapple or madarin oranges in the little snack cups. DS wants beef jerky, much to his sister's disdain. We'll also throw in an assortment of things like Cheezits, salted nuts, Little Debbies, Fruit by the Foot, etc.

For the hotel room I'll be bringing things like bagels, rice cakes, sliced ham, cheese, bread or rolls of some sort, maybe cereal, etc.

Since there are just four of us, we remove the back seat from our van and pretty much fill up that space with everything we'll need for the trip and of course everything we'll be bringing back with us!
