Snacks that pass security flying

We have an early flight and then very close connections at the next airport so may not have time to grab anything at the airport. What can we take in our carryon that will pass security? Thanks,

You can bring almost anything that isn't a liquid or gel (or gel/paste like consistency). We always fly so go to snacks for us are goldfish crackers, whole pieces of fruit or apple slices, granola bars, beef jerky, dry cereal. My husband needs something more substantial so he will buy a bagel with cream cheese and a drink before an early flight. I'm pretty good with just coffee in the morning. Each of my three kids has their own backpack with snacks. They like picking them out and getting something special before a big trip.

I have coworkers that even travel with yogurt and rarely is that taken away. If you have a young child you can bring bottles and stuff for them (read the rules on the TSA website, they update them so often that anytime I fly with my child I check to see what if anything has changed).

But certinaly dry food items (granola bars, gummies, etc.) are fine. Also empty water bottles (I like one with a filter) and / or flavoring for the water. Then you can fill up at a water fountain and spend your airport money at the bar ;)

Last trip we were leaving right after school and not getting to our resort until 10pm or so. We knew we would be hungry so I packed a sandwich for each of us and some basic snacks like goldfish crackers, pretzels & cookies. We also brought with us some sliced breakfast breads for quick in room breakfasts. We had no problem with security.

We have to pack full lunches often since we fly cross country with kids and tight connections.

We have packed the following and TSA has never even asked for a closer look:

Uncrustables or homemade pb&j
GoGo Squeeze
Yogurt tubes (I freeze these so they stay cold)
Various fruits (grapes, apples, bananas)
Goldfish or crackers
Cookies or candy
Fruit snacks and fruit leather
Clif bars

We pack that stuff in an insulated lunch bag that we carry in our backpack. It's been fine for years now. I've never declared it beforehand and it never causes a "hit" on the x day machines.

Last week I literally packed PB&J sandwiches for the flight. lol.

I agree. PB or PB & J is easy and filling. The only problem we had was on our flights both to and from MCO, someone had a peanut allergy so they asked everyone to refrain from eating anything with peanuts.

Assuming you are not flying internationally:

Fruit (whole fruit - not pouches or cups with liquid - but see note below re babies)
Sandwiches
Any crackers/chips/etc
Really anything that is not a liquid or gel

If you are traveling with a small child or a child with an allergy, you can probably bring through more. Baby food is allowed, and that will include pouches. DS had a milk and preservatives allergy when he was a baby/toddler and TSA regularly allowed me to bring through non-dairy milk as well as things like home made applesauce - but they did make me open these items almost every time. So if you do bring these types of items only bring what you would consume on the plane anyways, as they will be opened/tested.

I would stay away from Peanut Butter in general due to allergy issues. Often when there is a peanut allergy on a flight, you will be asked to not open/eat anything that contains peanuts. So better to plan for that and not end up in a situation where your packed meal could cause a problem.

This.

Also, I've had friends get a jar of peanut butter taken away as a liquid.

I think the PB rule is so conflicting because we got peanuts on our last Southwest flights! So weird. Is it just when someone announces they have an allergy, I mean tells the flight attendants?

Yes, they will typically announce if someone has a severe allergy and provide an alternative snack usually (pretzels, chips, etc.)

The peanut butter as a liquid rule however seems to vary based on the TSA agent. As do some other on the border liquids like mascara, lip gloss, applesauce, etc.
