Smithsonian Area Hotels & Car Rental

Hi All. My DD is getting married on Halloween and they have decided to drive to the DC area to go to the Smithsonian Museums on their honeymoon. Any recommendations on a inexpensive hotel in that area. Also best place to rent a car as they will be driving their from MI and her old clunker won't make the trip.
Any help would be appreciated.

We've stayed at Embassy Suites and the Mandarin Oriental. Embassy Suites is reasonably priced (~$150/night) includes a free (and awesome) breakfast and our room was very nice. The Mandarin will run about $350/night but I love that hotel. Since they'll be driving have them check the parking fees at the hotels they're considering. Many don't offer self-park and some run as high as $50/day for valet.

The courtyard marriott foggy bottom is a nice hotel as is residence inn Capitol Hill. Parking at those are more reasonable than some in DC. As an alternate, we love Residence Inn Arlington Courthouse. Parking $15/day and in a great area with restaurants nearby. Plus metro stop right there. We use this all the time for DC trips as not as pricey.

Car rental - Enterprise. Should be able to find a location near you, not just at airports. Just make sure there is no mileage limits. That varies by state, I believe. If you are a Costco member, just keep checking car rentals through them. I've gotten some decent deals that way.

We stayed in the Hyatt, just two blocks from The Mall. Great location and nice bedding. We drove our own car, so no help with rental ideas.
