This is a totally uncompensated tip, but I HAVE to share for other budget-minded families: I found THE BEST interest rate on a savings account I have EVER seen! A full 1% with no minimum! And the site, www dot smartypig dot com, lets you put in a goal, like a Disney Trip, and will tell you to factor in what you want to save for airfare, food, hotel, etc, and you can add park tickets, shoes you might need, pet care, whatever else the trip requires, and then you input when you want to go, and it will calculate how much you need to save monthly to get there, and THEN you can set up automatic installments of that amount from your checking account.

I AM SO OVER THE MOON WITH THIS DISCOVERY!

I love SmartyPig and have been using them for years.

We recently knew our dryer was going and started putting money aside to replace. By using them and then getting the money in Sears cards versus cash I got an extra $25 (give or take). Between that, ebates and a great sale, we got our dryer for about $200 less than list.

It's also a good place to put a small emergency fund because it's not easy to get to the cash. So it keeps you from using for anything but an emergency.

Yep me too! Love smartypig!!! We decided to go on an ABD and WDW trip in 2015. GULP. Smartypig to the rescue. Money goes straight there and I never see it, just enjoy watching the balance grow! DD15 has her own account to which I wire her allowance to as she is always saving for something special and this to helps her. Only thing I wish they would get back is their ATM CARD..

Thanks for posting this. I'm definitely going to look into it as a savings account for my boys. I currently have a savings account for them at our bank but the interest is much better through Smarty Pig (even better than my CapitalOne 360 account).
