The alochol rule states 2 wine bottles no more than 750ml (standard size) or a 6 pack of beer no more than 12oz can be brought onboard a ship. What about a 6 pack of small individual bottles of wine that are identical to 6 packs of beer? They are usually 250 ml or smaller. Or is a bottle of wine a bottle of wine no matter the size?

Well, it doesn't say total volume of 750 of wine times 2, it say 2 bottles no larger than 750.

WTS -You can take a chance, but be prepared for them to seize all but 2 bottles, and then you'll have to claim them when you return from the cruise.

The official policy is 2 bottles no more than 750 ml each. 6 bottles is more than 2. Of course it is always up to security letting it through.

My experience has been that if it looks like beer on the Xray, it will go through. They dont open up and examine the contents unless they see something that needs extra attention on the xray. I didnt do this with wine but I did do a mix of beer and hard cider. But Id only do this if I were ok with possibly losing whatever was forbidden.

You were lucky. They are known to look for the word beer on cans and keep anything else. When hard seltzer became popular, many believed it was the same thing. They were confiscated.

Security does not play math games. 2 bottles of 750ml max of wine is not the same as a total of 1.5l, whatever the container.

I can only speak for NYC and Miami ports but I wasnt seeing security open luggage to read about the contents of cans.

How long did you watch? As noted, this can vary, depending on the person actually at the security check.

While I will agree that I havent had a scientifically significant amount of data, I doubt you have either. I stand by my initial relpy that as long as it looks like beer cans from an xray and as long as the person is willing to lose them that it is worth trying.

I have seen Port Canaveral security stop the bag of a cruiser under the Xray and then them to question how many people in their party. (I couldn't get my bag because she was in front of me). She had 7 bottles of wine, and when she said there were 4 in her party they made her point them out to make sure they were all adults before letting her move on. How often this happens, I don't know but they do pay attention

And don't forget they don't work for Disney, they work for the port authority.

The fact is that @PrincessShmoo, myself and plenty other regular posters on this forum have read and replied to hundreds of threads throughout the years concerning the DCL alcohol policy. Most of our answers are not only based on personal experience but also on the shared experience of all of those who contributed throughout the years.

The problem with breaking such policies is that, at some point, DCL could restrict it even more if they feel that guests are abusing it and that it hurts their bottom line. We’ve all seen things taken away by DCL because of guests pushing the policies to their limits.

@Marc D EXACTLY!

We don't want to end up like all the other lines and loose this privilege. They already took away the ability to bring any alcohol on board away.

Bingo. And unlike the porters who will slap a luggage tag on anything for a tip, the security workers do not work for tips and as such cannot be bribed.

The only thing this proves is if they see something out of the ordinary on the xray that they will search. My cider cans looked exactly like the beer cans I was also bringing. If the OP thinks the wine cans look enough like beer cans to try, then I see no harm if she is willing to lose the cans if she does get searched. Obviously the OP shouldnt bring multiple peoples worth of rations and should also avoid other things that may look iffy on xray to avoid getting searched.

I understand why the lines may want to word it as two 750 ml or less bottles rather than 1500ml worth of wine. It makes it much easier and faster for security. However I also see no real wold difference in consuming six "beer cans" of wine verses two bottles or six cans of beer verses six cans of cider. Drink them in your room and dont be obnoxious in public spaces which you should do whether or not you have the correct containers of alcohol.

For my Med cruise back in 2018 - I was so worried about bringing back a wine bottle from France. Thankfully it was just one 250mL and had no issues bringing on board. I noticed other cruise passengers had brought more than I did and they were stopped by security for check in.

I've never had issues with cider before. But cider is more of a gray area. I believe some states regulate cider like beer. A small bottle of wine is still wine.

To me 750 is still 750. Which btw is more like 4 cans of wine (I looked it up the sizings), not the 6 in case the OP is still looking to do this. If I had someone with me I'd be ok (ethics-wise) taking 6 because that's still less than the 750 pp. I wouldnt take the full 8 though because I'd be concerned that would alert security on the xray to take a closer look.

FWIW, there are several threads with comments saying that cider/ malt beverages will be confiscated. Just not in my personal experience. They xrayed the bag, saw what looked like 6 beer cans and didnt open to verify what sort of cans. But I was willing to lose the cider if they did open to verify.
