Small scissors allowed on plane? **Thread contains link to TSA banned items list**

I had given up on doing my crossstitching at the airport or on the plane. If it's OK to bring blunt ended scissors, how do they feel about the needle used to crossstitch? I would love to be able to stitch, but I don't want a hastle with security.

Thanks,

I have a question...what about tripods? The TSA list lists "camera equipment" but the comment underneath mentions only film...anyone have trouble getting tripods on or should I just check it?

I have never had a problem getting my knitting needles on any flights that I have taken both here and abroad and those are pointy and I dont recall ever having a problem with my needle for crossstiching. But I have never taken any scissors with me. I have a cutter that looks like medalion. It is round with little notches cut out of the edges, if you look closely at it you can see a blade that is inside but does not extend out. You have to put you tread into one of the notches to cut it. You can get them at most craft stores, I cant remember who makes them but the package is green. It has a hole on the top so that you can put it on a chain or yarn and it would look just like a necklace. I even took it over to Scotland/Ireland and never was questioned about it.

Upon our return, at MCO they took my husband's scissors from his shaving kit that he uses to trim his mustache. He had to either check them or leave them. Of course he left them. They were a very tiny pair of scissors.

I ended up taking a pair of children's scissors with the rounded ends and my cross stitch needle and fabric - did not try to hide it or anything. They went through the Atlanta airport with no problems; in Detroit, they wanted to examine it, so I had to remove them from the bag, but they were fine with it when they saw them up close. I am happy; I can get a lot done in the airport and on the plane.

I have a small cosmetic case that I keep packed all the time for traveling and forgot I had a small pair of folding scissors in there. I threw the case into my backpack and when I went through airport security, they told me the saw "something" on the Xray. I had absolutely NO idea what they could have possibly seen, and they rummaged through my entire bag.....until they came up with the scissors. Had to hand them over right then and there. They were a really nice pair that I haven't been able to replace yet!

DH forgot to pack my dock kit with a small pair of manicure scissors in the checked luggage, and when they saw it on their X-ray they treated him like a terrorist and confiscated the scissors, which were costly and of a style I loved but couldn't replace.

What about bringing Disney trading PINS on the plane in our carry-on bags?

The pins will not be a problem. They may open the bag and look inside. At MCO I am sure they see them all the time. We travel with them with no problems.

My husband travels almost weekly and he has just given up on anything that can possibly cut anything. He has had nail clippers confinscated more times than we can afford. I think mostly due to the pointy parts. I've been asked to move tweezers from my carry on to check in baggage. It just isn't worth the stress.
