I thought I read somewhere that you could buy 50 pt packages directly from Disney? I know that when we did the DVC tour that the smallest package you could buy was 160. I also know that there are resales for small packages available, but I would like to compare whatever promotion Disney is throwing out at the time.

We will use more than 50 points, but I don't like financing and I figure I could buy a small contract every year or so until I have what we need. (Or more than that ;))

I emailed DVC to find out and got a response stating that they could not answer my question through email and I should call. Just thought I would post here before calling tomorrow to ask the pros ;)

Thanks!

I believe 50 is the minimum initial buy-in now. For add-ons, it's 25 points or more so that isn't an issue. I was told that there was still 160 point minimum when I bought BLT a few months ago so went resale. Turns out the CM that told me that was wrong. Saved a few hundred bucks going resale but would have had my points faster (which was important at the time) had I bought direct.

If you are buying for the first time and its from Disney I believe it to be 160 points minimum, however if you buy resale you buy what you want, the only problem is that small contracts are hard to get on resale sites.

In early summer, DVC did start allowing new members in with contracts as little as 50 points. It was not advertised but something that was done if the new buyer had knowledge of it and asked to buy in with that amount.

Whether or not this is still being allowed, I don't know but it is worth contacting Disney.

With small contracts, the difference between resale and direct is much smaller and if you want one of the newer resorts, like BLT or VCG, you can get exactly what you want in terms of UY and will get current UY points as well. Some of the smaller contracts at these resorts seem to be stripped, making the Disney deal a lot closer in terms of value.

Plus, you can buy through Disney and use a Disney Visa and get 6 months, 0% interest on your purchase. We just did this. We have the money to pay cash, but like that we got reward dollars, and get to hold on to our money for an extra 6 months.

Good luck and keep us posted as to what they say!

We did the tour at WDW this July, and for sure we were allowed to go lower than 160. I don't recall what the minimum was, but we were considering 120 when doing our calculations. We ended up not buying there, and are going through resale instead, but you should be able to buy in direct at some level below 160.

Not true about VGC. They are out of several if not most UY. We were there in July, and OCT was no longer available - we purchased Aulani.

My DH and I are considering doing a small add-on - anyone know what the current price points are for 50 points or less for the various resorts direct from Disney ?

Based on the link it looks like AK and Saratoga can be 100 pt purchases. I really want OKW, so that's out. Also, the only incentive it lists is a $25 gift card. I have heard of much better incentives. Any insight on that?
