Monopoly is a fun game that has been around for many many years - in fact, it was created in 1935. My mom has a really old game from her childhood that has the original game pieces and wooden houses & hotels. This is now a family heirloom and will be passed down from generation to generation. I have a 50th Anniversary version, a Disney version and just a regular every day version. I don’t need 3, but I’m not willing to get rid of them. Lately, I’ve been in the mood to play Monopoly, I don’t know why, because I lose almost all the time - LOL! It is fun though, even when I lose. Today we’re going to focus on the Monopoly properties. I think many of us have certain properties they like to have for various reasons. So let’s get a refresher on those properties. They are…..

Now that we read that, please share with us today, your favorite properties to own. Please post any Monopoly winning strategies that you have. Since we won’t be playing together, you can share your strategies to help the losers, like me, be winners - LOL!

Which Monopoly properties are your favorite to buy?
(multiple choice)

*Please post why these are your favorite?

For Me…..My favorites are the red ones (red is my favorite color), pink/magenta ones (I like that color too) and brown (I thought these were purple. I like these because they are inexpensive and cheap to buy houses & hotels). After looking at the below picture, I need to change up my thought process on how I buy properties. No wonder why I lose - LOL!

I like having the railroads in the utilities and I like the pink and orange because average most people land on them racking the money💵💵💵💵💵💰💰💰💰🤑🤑🤑
I can’t tell you how many different games I have I probably have three different ones I haven’t played in a long time but I do enjoy playing on average I probably don’t win as much as I would like to but I enjoy playing the game in my house when we were kids we played for fun as adults it got kind of cut throat But when we had kids it went back to for fun until the kids got older then not so much🤣🤣🤣

I scarfed up any property I landed on and could afford.

We had Star War editions and a couple of others that my sons liked to collect but when we played we always played the regular Monopoly.

I am always a big railroads guy, but not so much utilities. The orange/Red corner of the board is where it's at - not too expensive to develop, but give great return and players coming out of Jail are always primed to hit them.

We have a 50th Anniversary Edition of Monopoly, plus a really old game. Monopoly is fun when you have lots of money. :)

I like the higher priced properties on each side. They seem to have a good return on investment.

We have an old game......from my childhood.
My DGS loves this game.
We also have a Disney version.

I like dark blue and green.....they are money!!
But I buy what I land on as long as I can.

I always liked to build up orange and green. Seems like those are the ones people land on the most. I also like to buy railroads and utilities. Like others, I buy everything I can as I go, and then get strategic.

I usually would just buy anything I could but I like the red and green ones but I am another one that usually loses, lol.

BTW I also thought those first 2 were purple.

I think I would buy any that I could. Not sure if that was good strategy or not. I used to play a lot with my brother when we were kids but don't think I've played in 65 or more years. Good, fun memories.

So, my faves to own are the dark blue ... simply because they're the status spots. That being said, my strategy is literally to buy up all of the cheaper things I land on early in the game so I can spread my wealth and have more earning potential across the board as things progress.

I didn’t play Monopoly per se, but I did play an educational rip off version that involved basic math a lot when I was younger.

Sepaking of Monopoly, if you want to immensely simplify the way you play, use poker chips in casino denominations. It makes things so, so easy! A friend of mine started us doing it - I'll never go back.

We have two copies of the original game, one that was mine, one that was DH’s, from when we were kids. I haven’t played it in years, but my favorites were the green and yellow properties, as well as the railroads.

Truth be told, I’m not a huge Monopoly fan; the games always seemed to go on too long and it’s kind of boring. DH and DS like it more and like being the banker, LOL.

I buy the cheapest monopolies right past Go and build up houses right away. It’s a strategy that has always worked for me and has earned me the title “slum lord” by the family members I bankrupt. 😂

Orange, red, and yellow tend to be the best. The reasoning is that jail is the most likely space for any player to end/start their turn, and the average move is 7 spaces. Railroads and utilities also aren't worth the investment compared to other properties.

An interesting strategy I've heard is to stay in jail as much as possible towards the end of the game. It's safer in there than moving around the board.

My preferences were orange, red and the railroads. But I would buy almost anything I could afford at the time, trying to get a monopoly in some color.

That's Monopoly 101 right there. If you are in jail, you can't pay rent. Now, some house rules disqualify you from collecting rent in Jail, which could be an issue - it's probably to combat those trying to stay in. I've never used that house rule personally though.

Also, I sitll like the railroads even though they don't get you that much. In some specialty versions of the game though, you can actually use the railrioads to transport your token around, but that's a pretty extreme rules variation. This is like in the Star Wars or Ghostbusters versions where they try to change things up.

I always go for the yellow and green for certain, and usually the dark blue too although landing on them seems to be hit and miss. I also always buy the railroads and utilities, because I just like having them even though the returns aren't great.

This is by no means a winning strategy, just the way i like to play the game and occasionally it pays off!
