I love the most basic white cake/white icing, but I also love strawberry icing. I made my son a lemon cake with lemon icing for his last birthday and that was really good, too. I think my very favorite cake, though, is almond flavor/wedding cake.

My favorite of the poll would be chocolate cake and chocolate frosting. My favorite for my birthday would be pineapple upside down cake with a scoop of dulce de leche or coconut ice cream.

I said chocolate cake with white icing but truth be told, I'm not a huge fan of any of those for my birthday. I'm odd, I love german chocolate cake. Not the kind the store makes with chocolate frosting on the sides but the real kind with the filling you use on the sides as well. I don't get it often since it's a bit labor intensive to make, although hubby does make a really good one and would do it as often as I wanted if I asked. I'm the one who has to do the cleaning though and I swear the man uses every pot, measuring spoon and cup, and bowl in the house. All counter tops seem to be necessary as well. When he does make it we tend to freeze half of it in individual slices so I can at least have a slice now and again later on. It freezes pretty well and I've been known to eat it for every meal.

Well love all cake flavors, but not good for my blood sugar.
On my birthday I might be bad, but none of my preferences were on the list.
Carrot cake
Spice Cake
German Chocolate Cake

I like all kinds of cake but for birthdays the kid in me prefers just a basic, standard "birthday" cake of white or chocolate with buttercream icing. Although my favorite is actually marble because then I don't have to choose between the two, haha.

Trader Joe's has the BEST vanilla sheet cake with vanilla bean icing that is to DIE for. It's like a birthday party for your mouth.

I would choose either yellow cake with chocolate frosting or chocolate cake with whipped cream. I love chocolate, but as I’ve aged, my taste has changed and all chocolate is often just too rich. As a kid, we always had what was called blackout cake—chocolate layer cake with chocolate pudding filling and chocolate frosting, covered in chocolate crumbs. As others have mentioned, I also love Black Forest cake!

But I don’t care to eat much cake anymore, and I’m not a fan of buttercream frosting unless homemade, since most commercial bakeries (especially in big box supermarkets), make it with shortening, and little or no butter.

For birthdays, we always get white cake with white buttercream frosting. Our local grocery store has the best cakes, so we always get theirs.

It's not necessarily my favorite kind of cake, but I actually do love the basic grocery store "birthday cake." I guess that's white cake and icing, but I am not 100% sure.

There are not many that I don’t like, but over the years there are three that really stand out (none of which were actually for my birthday!).

The first was a banana cream pie. I had an aunt who made this once in a great while and I have never had one as good anywhere.

The second was a first birthday cake (geared towards the adults since the child was too young!) and was made by a local bakery where the couple made everything there. This one had yellow cake with a layer of custard and peaches inside.

The third was made by a friend, and was yellow cake, but with the best chocolate filling/outside icing I have ever had. One of those “give me a bowl of the icing and a spoon” type of things.

A German Chocolate Cake would be my first choice as a birthday cake. Second place would go to Carrot Cake.

Is there a flavor of cake I've ever turned my nose up to? NO!
I love cake!

But for my birthday if anyone asked what I would like best it would be lemon cake with lemon flavor frosting and a layer of lemon curd.

On the other hand, my husband is a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting only!

For decades, I bought specialty cakes at local bakeries but now most of them are gone so I’ve fallen back on Citarella and Zabar’s. My favorite was mango mousse but thennn my head was turned around by Ladurée and I’ve never looked back. Later this month I will treat self to a something from there.
