You know what’s funny? I have an Uncle and my DH has an Aunt who both pride themselves on not having a TV. Yet the times they’ve each stayed in my home you couldn’t pry them away from the TV with a crowbar.

I think we have 2. I know the one in the living room is smart as is the one in DD’s bedroom. The ones in our bedroom and the basement are definitely not The one in the family room might be?

Our first iteration was casting from apps on our devices through a Chromecast. Then came the game-changer of the Firestick and now the Smart TV with all the major entertainment platforms and web-surfing built-in. Trust me, it's better...just better. (**Except of course for having to use the remote to operate the keyboard for browsing; that good and truly sucks.)

I started out with Chromecast. I will say having an on screen user interface with the ability to use the phone for searching and such is much better than the phone exclusively. But the streaming dongles like Firestick and Roku are far better than it built into the TV because after a year and it gets super slow, I don't have to live with the lagging and slowness of the TV constantly updating because TV's are expensive vs. the cost of replacing a slow old dongle device.

Though you can still get an external streaming device even if you have it built in if the TV gets slow. My 4 year old Vizio gets agonizingly slow sometimes.
