Today is National Puzzle Day, which means we’re going to talk puzzles today. When many hear the word puzzle, they immediately think about jigsaw puzzles, but there’s so many more puzzles than that. Here are some puzzles that people enjoy….



So let’s talk puzzles today, because for puzzle lovers like me, I’m always interested to learn of new puzzles I can enjoy and I’m sure you all are too. Please share with us today…….

For Me…….I love doing jigsaw puzzles. I started them during COVID and I still work on them today. I work on a puzzle, glue it when done, and put it in a frame. I have a wall in my kitchen that I hang them. I do puzzles that are themed to the seasons, and then I switch them in and out of the frame. The photos below are my current puzzle in the frame and the one I’m working on now. I also enjoy doing Sudoku, Crosswords, Word Finds and other types of puzzles you’d find in a puzzle book. I started doing Sudoku & Crosswords on my phone and that’s a lot of fun when I don’t have my book. In the poll I added children’s puzzles, because my love for puzzles started with my grandpa - he did children’s puzzles with me all the time. I then did them with my girls. I now wonder if making my WDW Trip Itinerary is considered a puzzle because it sure feels like it should be

Good morning!! I love this question because one of my very favorite things is doing puzzles! I love crosswords and word games, etc. but jigsaw puzzles are the best. We try to buy a puzzle from every place we travel to, so coming home and working the puzzle always reminds me of my family's favorite times together. We have some beautiful Disney puzzles - during the 50th, they sold a bunch of resort/50th puzzles that we got at a huge discount at the character warehouse. Like you mentioned, @slo , we also did a bunch of puzzles during Covid. I love doing them by myself or with my kids, though more pieces tend to go missing when the kids are involved

I semi-enjoy puzzles.

Word games are my favorite type. I liked Wordle (I think that is what it is called) when it came out. Unfortunately I eventually grew frustrated (and figured out how to cheat )

Crossword puzzles are pretty cool too.

I am this old, and I do not recall ever having been on a scavenger hunt, but I think it would be a lot of fun.
Escape rooms sound like a really fun thing to do, but I have never had the opportunity to participate in one.

I do like puzzles I especially like Word find and crossword puzzles I haven’t done a jigsaw puzzle on years But will do one upon occasion The reason I haven’t done one I have cats And if I got one out and left it they would run off with the pieces And then it would be a puzzle trying to find them and I don’t mean the cats
I have gone through several books of word finds I enjoy doing those especially when I can’t find a book to read or I wanna break from reading books I started doing those when I was a kid reading the nightly newspaper because they had one in the paper every night right along with the crossword puzzle along with the crossword puzzle that was in the TV guide every week

Wonderful childhood memories of doing jigsaw puzzles with my mom. She loved them and was always in the process of putting one together at all times. I don't do them myself now, but I do crosswords, sudoku and word games now on my phone and tablet. Nice way to waste some time when I'm waiting for something or just need some down time.

Scavenger hunts are fun we did one once on castaway cay on a DVC cruise it was a lot if fun And they had us all over that island looking for things it was really a lot of fun!!! I enjoyed it tremendously a lot more than I thought I was going to I was glad I did it

Same for me…..I’ve never had the chance to do one and they seem like a lot of fun. My DD21 participated in one with her Girl Scout troop and had a blast.

I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles. I also do Sudoku and all of the puzzles on the New York times puzzle page except the crossword puzzle. I'll do the mini crossword, but I am not a fan of the regular crossword puzzle. There are lots of other puzzles I've done, too.

I don't have a jigsaw puzzle going right now, but this is the most recent one I finished:

Like slo said, I find them very relaxing.

I enjoy crossword puzzles, and used to do them a lot with my Dad. And I occasionally do a Sudoku.

The daily puzzles I do on my phone are:
Wordle
Nerdle (math version of Wordle)
Connections, and
Ampersandi

That last one is on a different site than the NYT games (Pill Box Games, I think it's called) - I tried to start a thread here like we have for the other games, but it didn't take off. The "share" function just didn't work like the other ones do, but the game itself is super fun!

As for kids puzzles, when DS was learning to read, I used to make him those ones where one clue leads to the next, etc. - all through the house, and there is a little prize at the end.

In addition to the types listed, I like Logic Puzzles -- the kind with a grid and half a dozen bullet points, then by deduction you figure out who went to which store to buy what item.

Now that we have room on our counter (a big T), I have a puzzle board on it. Done two so far -- have a new one starting just in time for DD and her boyfriend to come this weekend, and my SIL next week.

I do a number of the NYT puzzles daily -- Wordle, Connections, Strands, Tiles, sometimes Suduko. I actually prefer Suduko on paper -- it's easier to put a question mark, erase, notes, etc.

Love the word fill-in puzzles that look like crosswords -- they give you the words / numbers but you fill them in the crossword puzzle.

I used to love the logic puzzles that @lanejudy just mentioned. Haven't done them for a while.

I do like jigsaw puzzles and word game puzzles, but I've found that product assembly triggers the same kind of reaction and requires comparable thinking/logic skills. It often requires more elbow grease, but you wind up with a usable product in the end. So, I approach all of these things like one big 3D puzzle. The new desk and chair DH got me for Christmas each had less than stellar instructions, which forced me to employ a lot of puzzle-like logic in the process.

Not really a puzzle person. Periodically not often, I'll spend a few minutes on a crossword or word search puzzle in one of my two daily papers. Not often though. Jigsaw puzzles as a kid,dome complicated ones.

I do jigsaw puzzles every now and then. I do coloring ones on my phone regularly. I don't like traditional crossword puzzles, but I love doing Cryptograms

Love doing puzzles - it just takes up a lot of space on a table somewhere in the house, so we tend to only do them during holiday breaks or times when we're stuck inside for a stretch (like a winter storm or, unfortunately, Covid).

We even had a couple puzzles that were 'escape room'-like. Which is to say, once you finished the puzzle, there were additional logic puzzles you needed to solve in order to "escape".

We're done probably 6 or 7 escape rooms with our boys - it's one of our favorite things to do for a night out with them. They're not cheap, but we always have a good time doing them.

My day starts with word games.

Every morning I wake up close to 3:00 am for the new NYT “Spelling Bee” and attempt to complete it in 15 minutes. Nice group of people trying to do the same thing and helping others to achieve that goal; I like the camaraderie.

Throughout the day when the mood hits I play Boggle online. Great for building your vocabulary and keeping your mind engaged.

Can’t play anymore word games cause I’d get nothing accomplished in the day, lol.
