I have heartburn, take Rx Omeprozole (Prilosec), controls most of it. If I eat later at night or heavier spicy foods late, I can have problem sleeping A few Rolaids Advanced helps fine with that.

Sandy, when I tried OTC Prilosec and saw it was Omeprozole, I asked my GI if he could give me an Rx for Omeprozole. My OOP is $0 for 90 capsules. If I was taking OTC Prilosec (same med), I would be paying $28 for 42 tablets at Costco, similar to Sam's. Worth asking the doc maybe?

Thanks Dan - I’ll definitely look into it 🙂

I have GERD and I take prescription strength Pepcid and Prilosec. If I don't take them, I suffer. Badly.

I have a prescription for omeprazole, but I only use it once or twice a week at most. Sometimes less than that. It was never an issue until I put on weight; and, it does seem to be related to certain foods, so I could probably eliminate it if I got my act together.

DH has had heartburn since before we married. And not mild heartburn, severe heartburn. He would regularly vomit in the middle of the night due to heartburn. By the time he was 30, he was having issues swallowing bites of meat due to the damage. He has been on omeprazole for 20 years. The swallow issues went away eventually and have not recurred. He only has very rare instances of heartburn, usually related to eating something particularly spicy.

The generic Kirkland brand is only about $10 for the same amount.

I did have some issues many years ago with really bad Heartburn.
A friend at the pub who is a doctor recommended Tagamet.
I took that for a short period of time and have not had an issue in years, just the occasional expected issues.
I may have just been very lucky IDK.

BTW - I eat lots of Spicy foods and extra hot hot sauces and curries and really don't get it anymore.

Before I was on the two medications, I couldn't eat anything made with tomatoes.

Add Buffalo Chicken to that list. Last night, sometime after 7:00 pm or so I had some boneless Buffalo Chicken wings. They were really good, but OMG I was miserable last night. I was too tired to get up and take anything so I just suffered in between sleeping and waking up cycles. Thankfully that's (for the most part) gone this morning.

I used to have acid reflux and took prescription meds until my new doc. said that's not right. After a few tests a gallstone was found. What was supposed to be a 45 min. outpatient surgery turned into a 3 hour two surgeons 4 day stay in the hospital and went home with a drain in my side. Turns out there was indeed a gallstone, just not where and the size they thought. It was as big as my gallbladder and the gallbladder was stuck to an intestine so bad they couldn't get it all off. They did 3 biopsy's while operating because the surgeon was convinced it was cancer (it was not). A year later and I do still occasionally have to take a tums but otherwise no more medication.
