Do you have a Timeshare somewhere?
If yes - how many?
(multiple choice)

For Me…….No and no desire to have one :sad2:
About 20 years ago we spent over and hour with a Disney Rep discussing DVC, but we decided against it for multiple reasons.

*Inspiration for today’s poll is my in-laws just left to go to their 2 week timeshare that’s south of Clearwater Beach, Florida. This timeshare is in their trust to go to us when they pass, but they decided to sell it, which I am thrilled about. I/we don’t want it - it’s a nice place and a beautiful location, but paying the yearly fee and being strapped to it is just not what we want. Plus, I can’t take off 2 weeks of work - it’s just not possible where I work.
*They used to have 2 - the other one was in Orlando, Florida. We used it once about 12 years ago and it was so nice to stay in for our WDW vacation. They have since sold it, which we were very happy about.

I've never had a desire to own a timeshare. One of my brothers has one in Las Vegas and uses it now and then but I feel he has put a lot of money into it vs just going out there and staying on one of the casino/hotels.

I had 4 DVC contracts - I’ve sold 3 and the 4th one is for sale - will I purchase again - YES - I do love my DVC always have - once things settle down in my life I plan on getting back in - I hope by then Disney is in a better place as I don’t care for how things are right now - just my opinion YMMV - currently I would rather cruise than go to the Parks anyway so that goes well with what I have going on personally
I have never once regretted purchasing my DVC and have enjoyed using it for years and years - again it’s not for everyone and I understand that - but I purchased most resale before Disney started restricting and was Grandfather in with full benefits - when I buy in again - unless they are running a really good deal which does not happen often - I will be buying resale as their prices have gone insane - again just my opinion - YMMV

No desire to locked into any type of vacation contracts.

Are there still “free” Disney tickets which are just fronts for high pressure timeshare arm twistings?

We don't have a timeshare, and I'm mixed on them. When I look at what my 2 weeks at a near-the-beach cottage costs, I always wonder if a timeshare would make more sense. My sister used to have a timeshare with Marriott Vacation Club and it seems like they were ALWAYS getting great deals, banking weeks, juggling stays for different times in different locations, getting great "bonus" deals. Makes me wonder...

Yes
We bought DVC at the BWV in 2002.
Apart from the lockdown period we have used it every year, going with or without children.
Now, our children have children and are making use of it with their families.
It has turned out to be a great investment but we won't realise that gain, still too much to enjoy!

ford family

yes, I own DVC and love it. My family has had many wonderful WDW vacations over the last 20 years. The 2 times we weren't able to use it, I was able to rent out my points with ease.

As of March we are proud owners of DVC (my in-laws added mine and my husbands name to two of their BLT contracts).
They are older - 83 & 80 and are not using it as much as they used to. They used it mostly for cruises but did take the occasional vacation with family or gave points to family. (They went to WDW in May and spent most of their time in the room as it was too much activity for them. 😥)
Our daughter is 23 and will likely have a family within the next 5-10 years, so we will enjoy the vacations with her and her family until we decide that we don't use it to it's fullest.

No, we ran the numbers a few times while tossing around purchasing DVC. In the end it made much more sense for us to rent points, which we have done with great success over the past 15 years. My brother bought a timeshare and he can't get out of it. They've literally tried to give it away, even offering to pay the costs associated with transferring it and the first years dues, no luck. He can't give it away! They even explored one of those 'get out of your timeshare' places, but turns out it's not that simple. I don't think they've used it in 5-10 years, they just keep paying the dues.

We bought 200 points DVC on a trip and started having buyers remorse about 45 minutes after. We rescinded as soon as we got home. Best decision for us. Right after that trip we started going more non-Disney places, and now we're just occasional day visitors.

We have owned DVC for years. Once owned 800+ points in 4 contracts and used every point when our boys were young. Now we only own 1 contract at BWV. We ended up selling the other 3 contracts - getting back all the money we paid for them - even doubled our money on the BCV contract. DVC can be a great investment if you purchased early on. Now, not so much.

I would never own a regular timeshare, only DVC.

No, DH and I don't own any timeshares. But I make a point to try to stay in timeshare resorts when I travel. I love them. It's so much more comfortable to travel with the kids when we get a separate bedroom(s), a full kitchen and sometimes even multiple bathrooms. I've had great experiences with them in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Florida, Virginia....

My parents own timeshares. They use them constantly to travel all over the US. We've had some nice big extended family getaways using their points and I'm actually really pleased with the quality of the resorts. My younger brother and I are planning to keep them in the family.

We had a great cheap stay at AKL about 20 years ago because my parents went to the DVC pitch. Our room was right off the lobby with a savannah view, it was fantastic. They did not buy in (my aunt and uncle own at OKW and we would often stay with them, my parents still do yearly).

I do not own any timeshares and have no desire to. I like going different places and staying in cute boutique hotels.

No - not now and not ever. It doesn’t suit our style of vacationing and there’s no way we’d get our money’s worth. We know many people who have folded under the high pressure pitch and ended up with contract they really didn’t understand, dreaming of sand and sun but the reality was relentless payments and fees they struggled to get out from under.

I don’t like the business model, would never trust anyone who sells them and no perk or prize they offer would ever be enough to get me to sit through a presentation. I’ll also never stay at a resort that is affiliated with a timeshare - the harassment of regular, paying guests to attend sales pitches is infuriating.
