Canned fruit is a nice, quick and easy way to eat fruit. A lot of people have strong feelings about it - some wouldn’t touch canned fruit even if they got it for free. So tell us today……

What is your opinion of canned fruit?
If you eat it…..do you eat it alone or in a recipe?
(multiple choice)

For Me…….I like it, but I don’t buy it very often (due to my UC I eat very little fruit). I used to buy it all the time when my girls were little - they preferred canned fruit over fresh fruit. I do enjoy making some sugar free orange jello with mandarin oranges in it (now I want to make that) and I do buy canned pineapple rings when I make our Christmas and Easter ham. I was raised with canned fruit. My mom did, and still does, serve canned pears or peaches with almost every meal. So canned fruit is something I’m very used to eating.

I only eat fresh, I buy frozen bananas and mango for my son, as a snack. I do buy canned mandarin oranges for a curried chicken salad recipe. Hard no on canned vegetables, frozen for emergency egg bakes, corn for some recipes.

I am allergic to most RAW fruits, nuts and some vegetables as I am allergic to certain trees and the fruit mimic the DNA of those trees. Yet, I CAN have the fruit if they are cooked or heated in some way: baked, boiled, stewed, simmered, roasted, jarred, and canned, as the heating process breaks down the enzymes or proteins enough for me to eat them. It's called Oral Allergy Syndrome.

So, yes, I eat some canned fruit, pineapples, pears, peaches, (packed in juice only,) mandarin oranges - I rinse off the heavy syrup, jarred applesauce and jarred tomato sauce.

Trader Joe's used to have jarred mangoes that I could eat, but they stopped selling it.

And for some reason, I am still allergic to canned lychees. Too bad, I used to love them.

My mom used it quite often in things when I was growing up. I don't or can't eat it anymore though. I am more of a fresh blueberry or strawberry guy now.

The one I buy the most is pineapple and I can eat a whole can of it no problem delicious
I often use it for mixed drinks
Growing up we ate cancer all the time
Mixed fruit
Pears
Peaches
Pineapple
And we often use crushed pineapple in recipes to make desserts
My father ate canned peaches in his lunch every day of my of my childhood it was the same sandwich and canned peaches how that man could eat that every day the same thing for 20 years is beyond me but that’s what he did

I use crushed pineapple in a recipe. I've used canned Mandarin oranges in a salad - yum! And I have bought sliced peaches to eat with cottage cheese. :) But I don't otherwise buy canned fruit.

I will buy canned crushed pineapple to add to cottage cheese, and DH enjoys canned peaches on his cereal in winter.

I used to have it often as a child.
Now I only buy canned pineapple (usually tidbits to add to a couple recipes) and Mandarin oranges.....both packed in their own juice

I buy the mandarin orange and peach fruit cups for dd and dh. I will have the mandarins on occasion, but I do not care for the peaches.

The only other canned fruit I buy is pumpkin for pies during the holidays. All others, I use frozen fruit.

As a kid, we had dessert on Saturday nights only. One week it was ice cream, the other was a big can fruit cocktail. With five kids, we would dish out the fruit and then count to make sure no one got more cherries than the other. Don't remember what we did if we ended up with an odd amount. Maybe mom ate the extra cherry so no fights.

I forgot, I do buy canned pineapple for cakes or topping for ham, cheese cakes, ice cream, pancakes. ( take pineapple, add sugar, cornstarch, butter, can be used on anything) We call it pineapple stuff. Yeah, advertising catch phrases just roll off my tongue. 😄

We would eat if from time to time growing up. When both my boys (now 31 and 24) were little we used to buy they loved the mandarin oranges slices. Then we quit buying them for some reason. Guess the last thing I bought was some pineapple rings which are still in the pantry. That was at least 2-3 years ago. Not sure now why I bought them in the first place.

LOL. My dad worked for a cannery, So of course I grew up with canned fruit and vegetables. I am type 2 diabetic so other than fresh apples, fruit, whether it be fresh, canned or frozen is off limits according to my Doctor. So don't eat canned fruit anymore. We still eat canned peas. They are the only kind of peas my wife will eat.
