Wooden pencils are something we’ve all used in the past, but what about today? There’s many different pencil options in 2024, but we’re going to just talk about wooden pencils today. So, I’m curious……

Do you use wooden pencils today?
If yes….where do you use them?
How do you sharpen it?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..I still use wooden pencils at work only. The doctor I work for accidentally ordered a jazillion of them many years ago, so I keep using them because they’re there, and I may as well just use them. I sharpen them with an electric pencil sharpener. As soon as the eraser is gone, I toss the pencil, because there’s a million more - LOL!

I use them rarely. At home we have a few around the house. I got a package of sharpeners at dollar tree. Every now and then I will use one at work if it’s the only thing I can find.

How do color pencils fit into the mix?

I use color pencils at church with kids and at home with grandkids.

At home, I use pencils if that's what I grab. We have a few jars /containers with assorted writing tools in them around the house.

We use an electric pencil sharpener when I have three dozen pencils to sharpener. We also have the old fashion kind with the dial that you turn to fit about 8 different sizes. We are so fancy, we have a sharpener upstairs and down.

I just donated a bunch cleaning out items and kept some for me and the very next week my coworker needed a pencil ✏️ I’m like I’ve got you !!! Then it was do you have a sharpener? Yup got one here in my desk !!! So he got a nice pretty pink pencil 🤣🤣 I don’t remember where I purchased these but they are very colorful !!!
I use pencils when I’m doing projects to mark measurements or to hang items up on walls rarely use them for my job anymore

I use wooden pencils quite a bit. Sometimes for my notes for work. And at home I use pencil to calculate/carry-forward the balance in my checkbook (yes, I still keep a manual checkbook even though I rarely write actual checks).

Have a bunch of them in a drawer and use them once in a while (at home). I prefer the old-style crank sharpener to an electric, but we have both.

We might have a few mechanical pencils left, as DS used to like them for school, but I'd say I always or almost always use a wooden one. We have a manual sharpener with a crank, but it doesn't have the dial to change sizes, so we also have the little hand ones for large or oddly-shaped pencils.

I use old fashioned #2 pencils often and have a hand crank sharpener.
I use them for marking wood and such for the most part.
The real issue is they are so poorly made that they seem to break every time I use them. Same with mechanical.
It's very frustrating.

I can’t remember the last time I used a pencil. I always liked using a pen, even on calculus and trigonometry tests in high school.

I never use a pencil, always pens.
But I have one or two wooden pencils and several mechanical for the grand kids when they are doing things here. We have a small hand held pencil sharpener.

Good timing on this poll. Our electric pencil sharpener just died and I had to go buy a new one.
My wife almost always uses pencils for things like shopping lists, where she often needs to use a writing instrument that can be erased. I use a pencil about half the time.

I use only wooden pencils. My absolute favorite was the Mirado Black Warrior, but the company stopped making them in the US and therefore they were no longer the fine pencil that I loved. I do have a few left that I purchased a long time ago. These days I use either the USA Gold or the General's Cedar Pointe. I believe that the best pencils are made from American cedar wood.
I use an electric pencil sharpener. The only one that I have found to work well is the Panasonic KP310, which is no longer made. It can be found on ebay and I have two in reserve. My grandpa taught me how to sharpen a pencil with a knife, which I can always do if necessary.

Ticonderoga #2: The GOAT.

I completely agree. I have no idea how many pencils I give away to students in a school year. Wooden pencils are cheapest, so that's what I load up with for the inevitable. (Not the battle I find important). I also grab a couple of big packs of pencil-top erasers because even if they find a pencil on the floor, it's usually missing the eraser.

I usually have a mechanical pencil and definitely Ticonderogas that I hide in my desk's top drawer. Oh, and I only have the old manual pencil sharpener in my room since the kids broke my electric one.

I rarely use them now. I seemed to have moved mainly to pens over the years. They do come in handy when making markings on pieces of wood though!
