It’s hard to believe that Lent starts tomorrow, but then again, it does feel like Christmas was forever ago already. But what’s weird, is when it’s time to decorate for Christmas, it’ll feel like we just put all that stuff away. Time can be a crazy thing. With Ash Wednesday being tomorrow, there’s a lot of people that like to participate with Fat Tuesday. Fat Tuesday is a true thing, that many people take very seriously. There’s also many people that like to have fun a lot of fun with it. For those that don’t know much about the topic, here ya go…..IMG_2979.jpegIMG_2980.jpegIMG_2981.jpeg

There’s so many things that someone can indulge in today, so there’s no way I can list everything in a poll, so we’re going to just discuss if we participate with this day or not. Let’s find out if you’re one of those people….

Do you celebrate Fat Tuesday?
If yes…..who do you celebrate with?
Do you celebrate every year?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I do not celebrate Fat Tuesday, but at one time, my FIL would give us some Paczki on Fat Tuesday. He stopped buying them and I never bought them, so we haven’t had them for several years. We are so blessed to have a nice meal every day, so I don’t need to overindulge one day to get ready for Lent.

My sister lives in NOLA and we visit regularly, usually two or three times a year. We've been down for Mardi Gras, but... it's a LOT, and we are tied to a university academic calendar, so visits for Mardi Gras are rare. However, both of my sisters and I try to make the same meal for supper on Fat Tuesday, so it's like we are celebrating together; tonight we are planning on chicken gumbo (from Zatarain's gumbo mix). Sometimes I make a king cake, but I didn't have the time this weekend.

Yes, Happy Mardi Gras! Born/raised in South Louisiana, and Mardi Gras was always such a wonderful tradition. So many happy Mardi Gras memories going to parades, marching in parades with the school marching bands, etc.....miss it in TN. We did scrounge up a mediocre king cake last week, and MIL made gumbo yesterday. WIll wear my Mardi Gras colors/beads to work, but that's about it this year.

We’re not Catholic, so we don’t observe Lent in a formal way but we do enter into the spiritual significance of Ash Wednesday as we journey towards Easter. We will be having pancakes for supper tonight and a day of solemn reflection tomorrow. :goodvibes

We don't celebrate Fat Tuesday as such. But most years we do have a paczki or two while they are around. Yesterday, Marie and I indulged in two paczkis each from the amazing donut shop, nearby Spunky Dunkers. That's plenty to hold us over in that department until next year. That's the extent of our Fat Tuesday observance.

I don't really celebrate, but will follow along in a Catholic adjacent kinda way. (I'm not Christian, but my husband is with Catholic leanings)

No celebrating here. DW used to buy a king cake so the grandkids could learn a bit about it, but I haven't seen one around this year:)

We have friends who live in Louisiana, and they send us a King Cake every year. These are delicious, and we share it with neighbors here in Cape May!

The cake has been eaten already, so, we don’t celebrate Mardi Gras exactly. We do celebrate the spirit of Mardi Gras

We do jambalaya for dinner and wear our beads. Our local area had Mardi Gras parade Saturday night. We are in KY but we have picked up some celebrations from our military days and living all over. We are always up for a party!

I love Paczki! The grocery store has had them the past four weeks so I have been indulging. I thought about getting a King Cake, but that is a lot to eat on my own. Today is about having all the treats I won’t be having again until Easter - jam on biscuits, brownies, a hot cup of tea with sugar. I am also wearing purple, gold and green today, and the beads I have gathered at POFQ over the years.

Mardi Gras is big business here. We don't always celebrate directly on Fat Tuesday, but we do typically do some celebratory stuff in the weeks leading up to it, especially as the parades start up in Galveston and the plethora of local Cajun restaurants offer specials. I am happy to say that this season, we have had FOUR King Cakes. I have gotten the baby TWICE! We debated about Cajun yesterday since we had the day off and were celebrating belated Valentine's Day but every place was packed and we decided to wait until crawfish season is in full swing.

We don’t celebrate it, but we do enjoy a good paczki or two during the time leading up to Lent.

I went to a Polish deli/bakery yesterday to buy some poonch-key for today, but that’s the extent of any celebration.

That bakery has many varieties, not as many as the order sheet above, but a nice selection. I like the type covered with granulated regular sugar instead of powdered sugar. I bought one each: raspberry, apple, blueberry, and bavarian creme.
