I like cranberry sauce, and eat both kinds - mostly at holidays, but occasionally other times. I prefer jellied, but I think it's the predictably - It's always really good. With homemade, it's either amazing or just OK.
My BIL makes a home made cranberry-cherry sauce that is absolutely amazing. I eat it like I can’t get enough. It has whole cranberries and pieces of dried cherry in it, so it’s not a smooth texture. Unfortunately he only makes it for Thanksgiving so I get it once a year. I should ask him for the recipe . . .
I can’t stand the canned stuff after having home made, although I used to love the jelly type sauce in a can.
I only had the jellied cranberry sauce until a couple years ago when I decided to buy the whole berry and it is so much better. My mom insists "us kids" didn't like it so she only bought the jelly. But she said the same thing about real mashed potatoes. Which I of course always make from real potatoes.
Now the question is what to do with leftovers? For some reason I thought I'd need 2 cans had have an entire can leftover.
I love both kinds. I sometimes buy it throughout the year since we like it so much. Our grocery store has some whole cranberry sauce in their deli case that has walnuts and chopped oranges in it. We really like it so I’ll buy a few containers throughout the holiday season. I looked for it yesterday and they were out
I often wonder who came up with the idea that cranberry sauce is something to serve with holiday meals - who made that decision? Enquirering minds want to know
I like it and we only do jellied and only for thr holidays. But I do enjoy it. And also like cranberry in my cocktails. And also like dried cranberries, like in granola things and whatnot.
Homemade only. Just my wife and I this year for Thanksgiving, and she will only have a taste. I accidentally made it with half the sugar the recipe called for. so it was a little tart, but not bad, and better for my blood sugar.
I like it and eat it occasionally through the year, with chicken or turkey. Of the canned variety, I prefer the whole berries, but will also eat the gel. For Thanksgiving, we always have homemade, made with fresh berries.
