I love Barry! I fell in love with him way back in the 70's., and have seen him in concert many times, most of them from the front row. It's hard to believe that he's 80 now and seems to still be going strong. His music can evoke so many memories for me., and has gotten me through some hard times in my life.
I did know the special was on but didn't have much interest. He's always been a good performer -I saw him on the Rockefeller Center thing but its hard to enjoy watching someone perform with all the surgery ...like watching a Barbie/GI Joe figure sing to me. He was big in the 70's growing up so I can see women my age enjoying the show -I'm thinking most men didn't go out of their way last night to watch.
Add him to the list of Neil Diamond and someone else I’ve fortunately been able to completely blank out of my mind and you’ll have a HARD noooooooo.
The man and I had very different tastes in music but we were united in our dislike.
If someone (besides my older sister) in my circle liked them I’d just scratch my head and continue talking amiably.
I didn’t know about this but will now make a point to watch it on Peacock. I’ll watch all the different musical Christmas shows that are airing maybe this weekend.
Barry, country Christmas, Demi Lovato, I know there are others.
I watched it because it came on right after The Voice. Can't believe he still has such a powerful voice at 80 years old.
I really enjoyed hearing him do his old classics that I loved in high school and college. Like others have said, it brought back a lot of good memories. "Even Now" is my fave of all of his songs. Love that one.
I like Barry. I like this music. I don’t think I would set out to see him live but I do enjoy his music. In my first nursing job back in the 90s in a seniors residence one of the residents listened to him all day long and his music always reminds me of her now.
I did not know about his Christmas special. I would watch though if I come across it.
I love Barry! My friends and I growing up had all his albums and knew all the words to all his songs. Lol.
I saw him in concert once and dragged my now-DH along. Barry actually mentioned at the start of the show his empathy “for all the men who got dragged along here tonight”! That actually made DH like him more.
I didn’t know the special was on but I have Pluto so I will try to catch it again.
I like him okay. I like some of his songs. I have an older friend in Scotland who is crazy about him. She goes to multiple shows when he's playing, and they (I guess it's his official fan club and not a bunch of stalkers) decorate his dressing room before he arrives.
I can never figure out how in the world Barry Manilow became popular but he seems to have a big fanbase? My mom got one of his albums and when I listened to it with Mom I was surprised at why he had a big fanbase and I can see why he was a big star in the 70's with songs like Mandy and Can't Smile Without You and he even sang Bandstand Boogie for American Bandstand. But what's really surprising is that even in his 80's Barry still has talent and keeps releasing albums. I was shocked at his Greatest Songs Of The 80's album that Barry Manilow is amazing at his age now. But my mom likes the song Weekend In New England and was there a movie starring Alan Alda of the same name too?
Didn’t see the show, but yes I like Barry. I saw him live a few years ago, which happened to be a Christmas concert. People call him schmaltzy, but sometimes I’m in the mood for that, LOL. My taste in music covers a wide range, and I can appreciate Barry’s talent as a songwriter and showman in the old-school style. IMO, his songs are timeless.
