I've always preferred over. And generally, it seems like I'm the one usually changing TP rolls, so most are over in our house (not sure about our sons' bathroom - I try not to go in there often :scared:)

I was taught over for a job so that is my preference. My mother is so adamant that it must be under or she can't reach it when it's over. I just can't comprehend why she can't. It used to be because of the cat so under would stop rolling if the cat pawed at it. So at her house it's under unless I just forget to check. Instinct for me puts it on over though.

I prefer over and always hang it over. Someone in my house— I think one of the kids—puts it on under. I have thought about saying something or switching it, but I don’t want to discourage them from changing the roll in the future (i.e. I don’t want to criticize the way they did it, when it REALLY doesn’t matter much) so I have learned to deal with it.

Early on in our relationship m ex husband cornered me after I got home from work to chastise me for putting the toilet paper roll on wrong. I had put it on with the loose end on top rather than on the bottom the way he insisted it be done. That really should have been a clue for me to promptly make him an ex then but no, I had to suffer for 3 1/2 more years.

I prefer it over but in the past couple of years I've just started putting it whatever way and its really no big deal anymore.

:wave2:Hey @slo - I get you. I was raised “under” too, so that’s the way I put it on. But others in the household put it over and that’s just fine with me too. I really don’t even notice unless I’m specifically looking. And why would I specifically look? For those of you that are bothered by however it hangs outside your own home - that’s really nutty. Last time we had this discussion on the CB a poster said she changes it at other people’s houses.
I remember that... I thought it was simultaneously funny and passive/aggressive!

We are "over" people. If you look at the embossing on two-ply TP (is that tp tp, hahaha) you can see that the "finished" side shows when you have the roll in the "over" position; you see the back of the TP when you have it in the under position (jeez, I need to get a life!).

I don't pay attention when changing out a roll, nor do I pay attention when I am in the bathroom. Just checked, 3 bathrooms, 2 have the tp over, one has the tp under, and they all do the job.

I'm in charge of the bathrooms at my house, keeping them clean and stocked. I am adamantly an Over person. Whoa to the one who puts a new roll going under. You get one warning, and then you're using wadded up newspaper next time you go.*

*I am kidding. I think.

I used to prefer under, as that was how my mom did it when I was growing up, but have switched to over. Really doesn’t matter that much though. If someone hangs it under, it wouldn’t bother me and I wouldn’t change it.

I totally forgot about an "OTHER" that I need to get off my chest.

While I truly just want TP there, it is a MAJOR pet peeve if there is a toilet paper holder and the person doesn't take the time to put the new roll in the holder. It can be up, down, or sideways...but PLEASE put it in the holder. I shouldn't have to pick up the roll and unroll it if there is a perfectly functioning holder in the bathroom.

I lived for a lot of years in an apartment where the roller was on the same wall the plumbing for the toilet was. So, behind and to the side. I did not use that roller at all

There is an illustration floating around the internet from the Scott Paper company that shows the paper roll in the over position. This is gospel then.

There is no holder in this illustration. It's just a patent schematic of the roll itself. Therefore, it is not relevant to the discussion, let alone "gospel".
