My Aunt in Tennessee had an exciting day yesterday - she was asked to come to the news station to be interviewed about her artwork and to show her artwork. She posted pictures on Facebook - very awesome experience for her.

So I ask….

Have you ever been on any news show?
Have you been in any newspaper?
(multiple choice)

*If yes…please share your experience and story

For Me……I have been in our local newspaper about 5 or 6 times when I had my store. I have never been on a news show. DD20 her junior & senior year of HS was in the paper all the time for HS softball - it was always fun watching her interviewed.

We have been in several local newspapers as well as been on the local news and a local show called New Hampshire Chronicle. We also won a local radio stations contest one year and got a private jet to NYC for dinner and shopping!

We do a large Christmas display at our home and have had many pictures and stories written about us. 🎄🤶🎅

I've been on the local news... Girl Scout Troop visited the station and we were on during the weather report, and I was interviewed about Y2K because I ran an IT shop.

I've been in the newspaper, a magazine and on a news program about our adoption from Russia. I've also been in the paper for promotions and for charity work.

Being from a small town, everyone's in the paper at one time or another lol!

Back in the day, I was in it for tennis and theater. My kids have all been in it for sports, choir, student of the month/week, etc. DH has been interviewed for the paper - he runs the turn department of our company and is interviewed about yard care every now and then.

I have not "appeared" ever. My name has been in paper YEARS ago in the Bowling Honor roll and I wrote a few times to Letters to the Editor. My daughter had a nice big picture of herself when she was on the swim team in HS. I also sent my kids pictures into the paper with their "first fish" when they were quite young! I do not think my husband has ever been in the paper, LOL!

edited to add: OUR WEDDING PHOTO!!! So yes, I've been in the paper and so has he.

My picture has been in the local paper twice that I remember. Once a staged photo of me and my mom enjoying ice cream during a heatwave. And another time after winning second place a mother daughter look a like contest with my older daughter when she was 5. My name may have been in there for things such has graduation and birth announcements.

Fortunately for me, I have not had such an honor to be highlighted in the news and hope that track record continues :)

Separately, in the late 1970s my grandfather was highlighted in one of the Chicago newspapers for his retrieval and recycling of aluminum cans for cash. This was at the transition from other metal cans to aluminum.

In the summers when we would stay with our grandparents, we would be out on our route at 6:30A checking the usual locations in his neighborhood (mixed residential, commercial and manufacturing) or the Calvin Park/Wrightwood area (for those in the know).

We would fill our customized Red Ryder wagon and a shopping cart full of cans, go back to the garage, flatten the cans with a sledge hammer (to fill our bags more efficiently) - throw them into big bags by the end of the week and take them to the recycling center where they were weighed and made about $50-75 a haul per week depending on the market fluctuation. This would be used for a few Chicago Cubs outings (amongst other necessities) back when bleacher tickets were affordable.

The article featuring my grandfather described all of this with a full page picture of him smiling proudly with his bags loaded on his red wagon in the background. My grandmother of course was less excited about everyone knowing what my grandfather was up too. I learned so much about this experience at a pretty young age - a blessing that has survived 40+ years beyond that news article.

When I was little I was in the hospital on Halloween. They let us have a little parade with our costumes.
They called my mom to ask if they could take my picture for the newspaper.
I was a real tomboy back then. I was Zorro with a big bandage on my head. I made my own paper knife too.

My picture has been in local paper(s) but my name was never mentioned. One was for a local charity play when I was a kid, one was for a cheerleading competition the team won as a teenager, and lastly one was taken of me at a local art fair. The Art Fair became a "stock" photo for the newspaper and it kept showing up annually for about 6 years. It's in my hometown (where my dad lives) and every year I'd get a call that I made the paper again.

I have been on local news too, but never really interviewed with my name included. In college I worked at a NBA players sports bar and when any local team did well it was standard practice for one local station to come the establishment to get reactions.

When I was 5 or 6 years old my picture was in our local newspaper, with our dog, as he was the winner in a dog show. Also my engagement picture and our wedding picture were both in the paper. And our kids had a photo of me dressed up for Halloween put in the birthday section of the paper for my 40th birthday.

I'm not sure if it counts. I was shown in the background of our local news when they were doing a segment of a foreign exchange student during my lunch period at the next table over.

I also won a contest in a magazine so my name was listed for that.
