Oh my…..my heart skips a beat when it comes to Monte Cristo sandwiches. It’s one of those things that makes me sad when it’s gone. They aren’t easy to find, which is good for me, because then I’d want one all the time :lmao: . The first time I had this was at Bennigan’s restaurant (are those still in business? I should google it. There’s none by me). Now I get a Monte Cristo at a restaurant called Cheddars, and they make a great sandwich. I don’t have this restaurant by me, but there’s one by my DD21, which is 2 1/2 hours away. I did my motherly duty and introduced her to these and now she loves them too. So when I visit her, we have to go get Monte Cristos. We just saw her this past weekend and got our sandwiches, which is what inspired this poll. So give us your deep fried answer today……

Have you tried a Monte Cristo sandwich?
If yes…..what is your opinion of this sandwich?
(multiple choice)

For Me……As mentioned above, I love them ❤️:goodvibes They are definitely not good for you - look at the calories in the picture :faint:. That’s ok though, I don’t have them very often. Since I’m very good at watching what I eat, I don’t feel guilty about indulging once in awhile 🙂

I've never had a Monte Cristo sandwich. I'm more familiar with the grilled sandwich than with the battered and fried version in the picture. It is similar to my favorite Croque Monsieur sandwich.

I ate one once at a Cheddar's in Lansing. I didn't care for it.

I have had a monte cristo a few times. It's OK... and I do like the preserves -- that gives it a unique touch. I just tend to prefer non-grilled sandwiches.

Oh I haven’t had one of those in years and they are delicious I can’t recall the last time I’ve ever seen one on a menu in any restaurant I’ve been in we don’t have a cheddars around us I wish we did those sandwiches are delicious! I’ll have to have you send one to me!!! 🤣🤣

I've only had one once because they're just so uncommon here, but I remember it being good! My husband, on the other hand, remembers it SO well and probably dreams of them at night ;) He really loved it! Good to know they have one at Cheddars!

It does not appeal to me. I don't like the sweet and savory together. I don't like sweet and sour chicken, the McDonalds McGriddle, so I equate it with those things.

DH loves Monte Christo sandwiches, and he introduced me to them. He used to get them often when we'd eat out , if they were on the menu. But I don't think he's had one in many years. Last one was from Cheddar's

I’ve had a few and my enjoyment level varies based on how egg’y it comes out. Sometimes the mixture they dip it in overpowers the meat and cheese and it’s more like a fried egg sandwich than anything. Not great, IMO. I’ve never had a deep-fried one; I avoid things cooked that way.

You can get one around here at any diner. I’ve never had it; I don’t care for Swiss cheese.

I think I've had the non-sweet version of it (which I guess disqualifies me as having it). Therefore, I voted I want to try it.

I've had them a few times and always thought they were just OK. When planning our 2015 trip to Disneyland, everyone said I had to have their famous Monte Cristo. I was told it would be life changing. It wasn't bad, but there were no singing angels with those first bites. We even tried both varieties and it was still just OK.

It's alright, though. I figure we all have some foods we absolutely love that others think are just OK.

They are great! I almost never have one, which is probably a good thing, but I do enjoy it. I will get one at Cae Orleans in Disneyland if I go.

The photo you shared looks great!

I tried one only once and it was a greasy mess with the jam smeared in it like a PBJ + grilled cheese type thing and it was absolutely gross. What you have there looks pleasant, not the same thing at all. I think if places served it like that it would be more popular because it looks yummy

Don't care for any sandwich that has jelly in it. There are several recipe versions of this sandwich and many are more of a grilled/french toast type of sandwich vs. deep frying.

In my experience the jam is typically served on the side for dipping, so the sandwich itself is really more of a deep-fired grilled ham & cheese. The powdered sugar is usually sprinkled on top.

I love them but haven't had one this century. I wasn't even sure there was a Cheddar's in my neck of the woods but it turns out there is one. I'm in no hurry to consume 1,460 calories in one sitting though:oops:
