Yes….it’s Wednesday night and I’m posting a little early.
I have no time tomorrow morning - I’m leaving really early to drive about 3 hours to move my DD19 out of her dorm so she can finally come home - she hasn’t been here since early January - we are so very excited to have her back for a few months ❤️

Doing this leads me to ask…..
Did you go to college?
Did you go away or stay home?
Was it a good experience or bad experience?
(multiple choice)

For Me….,I did go to college, majored in Marketing and my college was close to home, so I lived at home. I had no desire to go away to school, and I still have no regrets for my decision. My experience was mediocre - didn’t love it, didn’t hate it, it was just ok. My DH did the same thing at the same college.

How exciting for you . Enjoy your day tomorrow.

I never went to college but husband went to college and University. He loves school…lol

Son went to college for Power engineering 5 hours away from home

Daughter went to University to be a Registered Nurse ,2 hours away.

Well I am all over the place with this poll.

I went far away, close, stayed home, and enjoyed all of my college experiences.

1. Went away. 1900+ miles away. Loved it, except for the freezing cold. I left thinking my major was going to be different and that school didn't have the school I needed to pursue it. So...

2. I went back home. Didn't move back into my parents house, but into an apartment about 20 minutes away right off of campus of new University. Loved that school, but still had a tender spot for the original University (still do). Don't regret the choice I made to switch though.

3. I lived back with my both parents for a short period my junior year in college. Summer. Lease in apartment was up and waited for roommate to come back from New York for the summer.

So basically I hit a trifecta! :rotfl: The only good thing is that I LOVED it all. I throughly enjoyed college.

I attended a small university way up north at the opposite end of my state. By car the drive would take over two days at a good 5+ hours each day. Overall, it was a positive experience for the most part. Looking back, had I known there were so many required GE classes that all students had to take, I would have saved money and also time in going back and forth in switching majors by staying home and getting my GE first from a Community College. Beautiful part of my state and no regrets just grateful to have been able to go :)

I went to one month of college in high school. Was supposed to be “give them a taste of college and they will want to go” program. I wanted to go , but no money.

Went to a University 50 miles from home, so an hour drive (the speed limit was 55 in those days). I came home almost every weekend. Good experience.

Went to college a 6 hour drive from home. At times it was impossibly hard but in retrospect I absolutely loved it. DS goes to a university a 2 hour drive away and DD will be going to a University about a day and a half drive away. We will be flying to get her there and to visit. My only hope is they appreciate it half as much as I ended up doing.

I went away to a university more than 11 hours away—Georgia boy going to Upstate New York. I never visited before attending and rode the bus by myself to get there the first time. It was a great experience!

One of the best experiences ever. LOVED college life, met the man of my dreams and only good memories of that time. My college was about 2 1/2 hrs from home and I came home for weekends maybe every other month. I was the youngest and I think my parents also enjoyed my college years!

I went to a University close to home and commuted all 4 years. I also met my DH at college just like the previous poster.

I went to college close to home. Lived with my parents for 2 years.....then got married and lived in an apartment with DH while we both finished school.

I started commuting about a half hour for the first year. Then the new campus opened about an hour away and lived on campus for 3 years. i enjoyed college.

I was all over the place. First school was about 10 hours away. It was not the right fit for me. I transferred to a school about 3 hours away and then transferred again to a school about 40 minutes away. I never lived at home. I got my bachelors degree from the 3rd university. After I was married I worked on my master’s at a school about an hour away. I commuted then, but was part time while working full time.

I enjoyed school. If I were to do it over again I probably would have stayed at the second school. That was probably my favorite.

I went to a beautiful, small university about an hour and a half from home, and it was a great experience! I loved living on campus, but still close enough to get home for important events.

I attended classes for my Associate's degree, which was all I needed to start working in IT. This was back in the early 80's and most training was on the job. It would be another 20 odd years before I went back and completed a Bachelors, and then two Master's degrees over the next decade. I did all of these on-line. I was working full time, so did not have much choice.

I went to college three hours (via train) from home. I came home the first summer but then after that I held jobs at the college so only went home for holidays. Loved my college years!! Loved my new surroundings at the time.......Chicago!

Coming from a town of a couple of thousand, it was a great learning experience. :)

I started off at a local community college and then transferred to a 4 year university. It was a little more than 2 hours away from home.

I would define the experience as mediocre plus (maybe good minus). I had a good time, but I could have done more and experienced more. I would only come home a couple times a year during college, and went to summer school. It was voluntary, for some odd reason I actually WANTED to take a class in the summer every year, I guess mostly for entertainment purposes (wow I was such a nerd). After reflecting on this, I am going to go ahead and bump my vote up to "good" experience.

I went to college about 4 hours from home. It was a fine experience - I didn't love college - it was a means to an end for me.

I went to the "best" school in my state - it was about 4 hours away from home and I did NOT want to go. I am an only child and was/am really close with my parents. The thought of being away from home was really upsetting to me. I went and lasted a year. I was miserable. Gained a bunch of weight, hated being away from home, etc.

I moved home and went to the university near by. I lived at home and had a wonderful time! Lots of friends on campus, loved my classes, etc.

Just goes to show that what's considered the "best" school doesn't mean it's the best school for YOU. I tell my high schoolers that ALL the time. There's so much pressure on these kids to go to X school and that if you go to Y school, you're a loser. UGH!
