We have salt and pepper on the table but I never use them. It's more for decor, as they are Mickey and Minnie, plus there for guests. I have a tray on the table that has those and napkins.
Yes, because each of us likes things salted to different levels and it's easier to add than take away. I generally like the least where DH seems to overload. He has a lot of sinus and allergy issues, which I think have messed with his taste buds. He'll salt things to the point that it would be inedible for me. So, it's easier to just leave them out.
Yes! I have all kinds of salt and pepper shakers. I bought a cute chicken set from Cracker Barrel one time and that started a gifting trend with my family. Hahahah So, I have all kinds of fun ones that I rotate on the kitchen and dining room tables.
As for using them. There is a rule in our house, with our children..not guests…please taste the food before you add anything else to what the chef has prepared! LOL
I have multiple sets. One is kept on the table that mostly family uses. I rarely use the ones there. I keep another set by the stove; especially since I was over salting from the main container. I use this set every meal I prepare.
Never put salt and pepper on the table. If you are a guest, you have to ask for it. We just don't think about it. And never use it in a restaurant as most food is much too salty for me in a restaurant.
Of course at EVERY Doctor appointment I have to endure the comment to watch my salt intake because of my high blood pressure. I did ask ask the cardiologist to look at my blood sodium. I average 133, which is below the low normal range of 136. But he did not recommend adding salt to my diet! But he also looked at how many blood pressure medicines I have tried that RAISED my blood pressure. A trait I inherited from my mom. She went through 20 blood pressure medicines until she found one that actually lowered her blood pressure.
We have them. Not used at every meal. I salt eggs, potatoes and sometimes steak/ roast beef. But eggs are the only one I add some salt to before eating . The other dishes may already have salt added while cooking. DH will use pepper on some some dishes but rarely salt
We have them on the table but I pretty much never use them. My wife loooves black pepper and I can't stand it, so she uses the table one a lot because I'm not putting it in anything I cook, and she puts very little in anything I'm eating. I'm also sensitive to the taste of salt. A little in the food when cooking is enough for me.
We have 3-5 hot sauces on the table at any given time, and I go through those fast.
DH really likes cracked pepper, so the salt shaker and pepper grinder are placed on the table during meals, after I use them for cooking. I keep the salt to a minimum when cooking, so sometimes one of us will want to add more of that, too.
I have S&P shakers by my stove but I don’t cook with either…I have S&P grinders on my kitchen table but I only use salt and only on a few things…like french fries and onion rings.
Every day use... pepper can shaker, salt grinder for the pink salt, glass shaker for regular salt, and the nice sets are in 2 different china closets.
My mother-in-law despises using these and keeps buying cheap ones when she visited...almost like the old movie clip from What Happened to Baby Jane on type of hangers.
I put them on the table. The only time I ever use them is if DH grilled hamburgers. DH never uses them.
I usually season food at the stove and if I grill. DH says my food tastes better, but still refuses to season when he cooks unless he is following a specific recipe that tells him to.
When I was growing up they were a standard on the table. And I recall my father using them quite a bit. I never picked up that habit and today don’t keep them out any more.
I don't keep them on the table. Salt is in the cabinet. There's a pepper grinder in the little basket of "most used spices" that I keep by the stove for quick access, though.
