Yesterday, as I was scrolling through Facebook, I saw an advertisement for Light Bright and I was happy to see that kids still play with this (it’s now considered a “retro” toy, which makes me feel old - LOL) For those that don’t know…..

This was one of my favorite toys growing up, and as a mom. How about you? Please shed some light on this topic today…..

Did you play with a Light Bright as a child?
If not…..how about with your child, grandchild or another child?
(multiple choice)

For Me….. I loved Light Bright as a child and played with that all the time at my grandparents house. I spent a lot of time there so I had toys there that I didn’t have at home. Both of my girls had a Light Bright and I would keep it on a timer in their room, so it could always be lit up for them. They loved having the picture they made shine for them to see every night. Since it was on a timer, and out on their dresser all the time, it really encourage them to play with it and design new pictures. I see now, there’s a Mickey Mouse Light Bright - they would have really loved that!

I love Lite Brite!!!

I had one as a child, and DS had a mini/travel one. I always enjoyed both the premade patterns and making my own pictures.

I've also played with them with children I babysat for, and when DS was little, we used the big wall ones they have at children's museums:

Oh yea, I loved some Lite Brite! My cousin and I both had one and we played at each others houses. We had the kind that used a light bulb.

I got one of the "modern ones" in my nostalgic toys collection in the basement. I use it for Christmas signs...although I pretty much just made one thing and change the year because I figure if used too much, the black part won't seal back.

I loved my Light Brite as a kid. I bought one for my kids but they were never into it—too many other toys that light up and/or are easier to make pictures with, I guess. (I also loved my Etch-A-Sketch, and they weren’t into that either.

Putting Light Brite on a timer as a night light is a fantastic idea, though. I wish I’d thought of it!

Never played with it myself, it hadn't been invented yet when I was young enough for it. I never got it for my son, I don't think I ever saw it on the shelves when he was young.

As above, I did not have one, not invented yet. Natalie and Vince each had them as kids. Nice creative toy.

I still have my original one from the 70s! When mom cleared out her house, DD was about the right age so I kept it. I had trouble finding new pictures, though, and DD never really got into it.

:goodvibesI loved it but I never had one of my own. It was the first thing I’d always ask to play when I visited friends that had one. DS didn’t have one either. He was a toy car and Lego and action figure kid - he wouldn’t have had the patience for it.

Our kids had them but I don't recall if we ever played along, they'd create something and it would be brought to us to admire. It did seem to sustain popularity in our house longer than many toys they had.

I still remember the original Lite-Brite commercial and jingle. LOL, light bulb not included. My sister had one that we shared. I always liked artsy (and crafty) type of toys. (Another favorite was Spirograph). DS had one and liked it too.

LOVED LOVED LOVED my Lite-Brite!!! While I liked all of the preplanned design sheets, I really liked to go rogue and just design. I did a lot of color blocking and mosaic designs on mine. I contemplated buying a modern one for my kids, but I read so many bad reviews that I never did it. Besides, we had enough of a minefield with all of the Legos that weren't always put up in their bin. Adding Lite-Brite pegs to the mix might have made me lose my mind!

Loved it as a kid, bought one for my own kids and then another for my GS. It's still in our game closet, comes out rarely now :(
Unfortunately they have been made quite cheaply now. If anyone has an older one KEEP IT!!!

I chose other - I did not have one of my own, but I know I had some friends who did and I played with it with them at their houses. I did enjoy it the few times I got to play with one and probably would have enjoyed one of my own.

I was too old for it when it came out.
I did play with my kids. They had one.
Grandkids never did

I chose other because I had a Sears brand version, not the actual Lite Brite. It was a little bigger than the brand name toy, and the pegs were slightly different, but as a kid, I didn’t know the difference. My dad was in management at a Sears store when I was a kid, so most of our toys came from there due to the employee discount.

I absolutely loved mine! I saw a mini-version in Target last year and got one for all three of my kids.

I got the mini version for myself!
