Even though winter doesn’t officially start until December 21st, I think many of us consider winter starting December 1st. It’s 13 degrees by me at 5:20am and feels like -5, so it’s definitely winter by me. With winter comes winter activities that many enjoy. Today we’ll focus on ice skating. Even though some live in warm weather states, they make go to an ice rink or visit cold weather states and go ice skating. So share with us today……

Do you currently go ice skating?
If no…..have you been ice skating in the past?
If yes…..when?
(Multiple choice)

For Me……I don’t go ice skating now. I physically can’t do it :sad2: Both of knees need to be replaced and I have a nonoperable bone spur on my left ankle that prevents my ankle from moving correctly - this prevents me from doing many things. I’m kind of a wreck from the waist down, but that’s alright, it is what it is. I did go ice skating in the past. We’d take our girls to downtown Chicago and I’d ice skate with them there. The last time I did this was about 14/15 years ago.

I don't ice skate. The winter I was 10, I fell skating and broke my left arm. The winter I was 11, I fell skating and broke my right arm. I figured, enough messages from God, I'm done ice skating! (I did roller skate when I was in my mid-20s, but that didn't end well either..)

I enjoyed ice skating as a child, and as a young adult. Later my ankles couldn’t support me. It was fun while it lasted!

I tried it as a child I never could develop into being able to do it but I did try it I fell down a lot and slammed my knee repeatedly this knee still gives me problems to this day I don’t think the ice-skating did it but it didn’t help I wouldn’t dare try to do it now my bones would probably shatter all of them🤣🤣🤣
When I used to rollerskate as a child I did that all the time had no problems with that but ice-skating was not something that I was very good at nor could I seem to master the art of ice-skating
I will say I enjoy tremendously watching it on TV and I’m hugely impressed by people who can do it !! Both professionally and non-professionally!!

I ice skated every winter weekend when I was a teenager in the late 80s/early 90s. It was what everyone did even though you wouldn't expect that from Marylanders....

I'm middle-aged now, I go skating once a year when we go to Kings Dominion for Winterfest. DS 15 and DD 12 love it. Though last year my niece broke her arm while we were skating there. DH used to skate, but I think he's too stiff these days to be comfortable doing that.

Went a couple of times as a teenager....didn't really enjoy it

Every year as a child, our local fire department would flood a nearby public tennis court and a recessed parking lot to turn them into ice skating and hockey rinks. I would skate a few times, but mostly went tubing in the snow. I haven't skated since being a child.

I loved roller skating as a teenager but not ice skating.
Me too!

Could roller skate with the best of them, but put me on ice skates and I was a mess. I don't like the cold either, so needless to say this activity was not for me.

I have never tried ice skating. South Louisiana, didn't have any opportunities for that. I am way, way too old to risk breaking a hip, to try it now.
But I've brought the kids a few times, here and there, older son did hockey for several years.

I love ice skating! I took lessons as a kid, but just Basic I. For a long time there was nowhere to skate in town after the mall with a rink closed, but now we have a nearby permanent rink and a few temporary ones for the holidays. I have my own skates, though I haven't had many opportunities to use them lately. I do love it though and am pretty good too.

I used to ice skate a lot as a kid. We would skate on the pond near my grandmother's house and my sisters and I took some lessons (never got very advanced). Haven't done it in decades, though.

I tried to ice skate as a kid. I could start and go fiward, just couldn't stop. The banks around the edges of the outdoor park rinks were my stopping aids.

I loved roller skating back in the late 50's, early 60's. The roller rinks were great back then. I always had the guards chasing me and giving me timeouts.

I used ice skate regularly as a kid. My dad did a lot of ice fishing and I would skate while he fished. I went a few times in my teens and 20s. I’m not sure I would skate now, I feel like that’s just asking to visit the ER 😂

We used to go when I was a kid. In the early days, I had the double blade skates, which made things much easier. I got traditional skates when I got older but we didn't go often enough for me to figure out balance, movement, stopping and turning. So, I would just skate straight across the ice field they built in one of our neighborhood parks and would skate straight into snow banks. I went once with some friends in high school and I was a disaster. I went again once in college and it was even worse. My best friend at the time used to be a competitive skater so she was doing all kinds of little jumps and spins while I was clinging to the wall.

I've always loved ice skating (and roller skating as well).

As a teen, I used to ice skate on my friend's pond, and as an adult, I would take DS - to an indoor rink, a local ice patch, or to the Frog Pond in Boston.

I haven't actually been in quite a while, but I would go if a friend or family member asked me to, so I left the "current" category blank.

I started skating at 3 years old. Played JV high school hockey in MN in the mid '90's and now I skate a few hours a week as one of my side hustles is refereeing youth hockey. My wife can skate, kind of, but neither of my kids has shown any interest. We have a rink attached to our local YMCA, so there is plenty of opportunity, but they've never wanted to.
