Since it is usually DH & myself it is a desert from the restaurant we are having dinner. My top 3 choices are Creme Brule , Cheesecake or Cannoli.

I am the cake maker; unless I make (or buy) one for myself it's not usual that I get one. Over the years when somebody throws me a birthday party, they handle the cake and I'm happy with whatever they come up with. I actually really enjoy cake as a dessert - my favorite is any variation of white cake with fruit and whipped cream.

For years, my sister would make me a carrot cake for my birthday.. 15 years ago she passed away 8 days before my birthday. We thought that's the end of carrot cakes. While cleaning out her house, I found her hand written recipe. I now make my own birthday carrot cake.

@slo, I also chose a Key Lime Pie this year for my bday on 12/20 It’s my favorite, although I am a sucker for any type of dessert! I’ll try them all. This year I made it, but some years we buy it. I can whip up a quick one using the recipe on the Nellie & Joe’s bottle and a pre made crust. Hit the spot!

For other family members, it really depends. I enjoy baking and decorating, but sometimes don’t have the time. For my DS12’s bday on 12/23, he requested a Gluten Free Buche de Noel. I made one, and it took forever!! It was worth it though. Delish, and he was so happy.

I really don’t care if my BD cake is store bought, homemade from scratch, or from a mix. As long as it’s NOT too fancy. Plain frosting is the best. It can have a few simple curly-cues if from a bakery. But absolutely NO ridiculous fondant or over the top decorations like these.



For my BD in November, DW made this. I enjoyed it so much I bought another box for future use.
