I miss the tradition of it, but not enough to buy one or carve one. I do applaud people’s skill and imagination in doing so!

I never enjoyed pumpkin carving, so we only did it occasionally with DD. Usually we just waited too long and didn't have time to get it done. We have (or are getting?) one pumpkin this year. The resident 7-year old thinks he wants to carve it, but he's not a child who should be wielding a knife. Perhaps he'll paint it, or maybe use sharpies on it.

Last night the Chem Department held its annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. I was surprised by how many grad students showed up. The pumpkins were really creative, for the most part. There were 3 categories- Scariest, Most Imaginative, and Most Scientific- with candy and certificates for the winner and runner-up. I LOVED the runner-up in the Scariest division. This student carved a "check engine light" pumpkin! Pretty imaginative, too!

I've never carved a pumpkin, and don't currently have any plans to. I do enjoy just about any pumpkin-flavored foods, pumpkin coffee, pumpkin tea, etc.

No carved pumpkins here. I did carve open a spaghetti squash. . . then ate it.

We live in a warm climate where a carved pumpkin quickly becomes a rotten pumpkin. I don’t do it every year, but if I want something beyond a basic pumpkin…I paint it.
