What’s your opinion of elephant ears?
(fried dough)

For Me…..I like it 👍🏻
I don’t remember the last time I’ve had it, but that may change today.
DH, DD18 and I are going to the county fair today, and I may buy one if we walk past a vendor that’s open and makes it (we’re going kinda early).

ETA……
Yep - this is how my family takes pictures 🙄🤣
Here’s the one we got today - it was so big and so good - honestly the best one I’ve ever had and I made sure the guy who made it knew it - yummy!! :goodvibes

What are they ? Do they go by another name ??? I bet they must - I’m old and I have not had one so I’m thinking they must - off to Google - I’ll be back !!

Omg nope have not had it but it sounds delicious !!! Only name it goes by - it’s a Midwest thing ( where have I been ??? )
Have one for me SLO - you two have a blast today !!! I hope you have a great time at the Fair !!! 😎😎😎😎

Heavenly scented and mouth-watering FRIED DOUGH is the specific name for a variety of fried bread made of yeast dough, also known as: fry dough, fry bread, doughboys, elephant ears (smaller versions called mouse ears)

They are sweeter fry bread
They were called Beaver Tails at Epcot in the Canada pavilion years ago

I love fried dough but I don't eat it. Too much fat and sugar for my system to handle.

I don’t know why I have not had this as it sounds delicious and something I would love !!! I hate funnel cakes and this is nothing like that - hmm - now I want one 🤣🤣🤣 I bet I’ve had something close to it - I’m no spring chicken here

Don’t think I’ve had one and probably wouldn’t like it—I am not crazy about funnel cakes.

Never heard of it as a food. I only know of elephant ear as a plant with large leaves.

Around here we have fried dough balls (or often irregular-shaped blobs) called zeppole. They are dropped into hot oil and deep fried, then covered in powdered sugar. Delicious and best eaten hot. Basically the Italian version of beignets. I’ve also had funnel cake a few times.

Is there a difference between elephant ears and funnel cakes? I love funnel cakes but they do not like me. All that grease gives me a horrible tummy ache. No more than a bite or two of hubby's now.

Never had one.

I do love funnel cakes and Indian fry bread and just about every variation on the donut, beignet, zeppoli, whatever.

Yes. Funnel cakes and elephant ears are both fried treats, but they are not the same thing. Elephant ears are a generally a large thin piece of rolled dough that's fried in one piece then dusted with cinnamon sugar. (Big and flat, like an elephant's ear.)

I love pretty much all sorts of fried dough! I think the last time I had anything similar was at least 5 years ago.... but, yum!

They are Beaver Tails here. I haven’t had one in years. I use to love the lemon and brown sugar ones. 😊
