I posted other because I am not sure. I might have seen one over the years if DH was interested. I would not choose those types of movies and actually don’t watch a lot of movies.

Only seen the first three. Of those, the first was the best. A fun cloak and dagger flick, which felt like classic Mission: Impossible.

The second was awful, despite John Woo directing. Total departure from the original. The Matrix had been released a year prior, and some scenes felt like they were following in the same footsteps.

The third didn't interest me much.

Also, I think the other big issue is that they moved to be such big, action movies, but M:I should be more of a spy movie, with fewer explosions and more intrigue. I think the recent James Bond movies suffer from this as well.
Yep, which is why the second one was so bad. It could have been ANY generic action movie. It's like they used a mask in a scene to meet enough quota to call it a Mission: Impossible movie.

MI2 could have easily been a Steven Seagal film. "Operation Unlikely: Silent Strike", or whatever.

Tom has aged out of his characters, he is 61. If he played something age appropriate and believable maybe, but I struggle with him being retirement age and playing these same roles. 🤷‍♀️
It's the stunts: I think jumping from high distances is supposed to shake off all those body thetans. /Scientology

I've seen all except the most recent.
Agree that I don't like what they did with Jim Phelps in the first movie
It doesn't seem like Mission Impossible to me, it seems more like an action movie with a little bit of spy business in it.
I loved the original series and still remember when Steven Hill was the leader of IMF. We have the first season on DVD (with Mr. Hill) and also have the new MI series from the 1980s on DVD. Those didn't age well. But we still enjoy watching them.

When Peter Graves came on board, it was still good until Martin Landau and Barbara Bain left.

None, just not interested. I do remember the tv series vaguely - I was very young.

I'm pretty sure we've seen them all (save this last one). I generally enjoy the movies. Simon Pegg is one of my fav actors, so I might be biased. :)

I haven't seen any of them. Not quite sure why -- I do like the genre, just never really cared to see them.

Loved the TV show in the 1960's. Just not a fan of spinoff movies or sequels.

I don't know if I've seen them or not. I am not a huge movie fan and have really limited short-term memory for things like this. My guess is maybe I went with DH to see the first one in the theater, or maybe I've seen parts of them while he is watching on TV, but I really don't know. I did love the TV show, though!

I've seen only the first one. I can't stand watching Tom Cruise, but I made an exception for this movie. I'm sorry I did.

You don't make a Mission Impossible movie and then make the villain Jim Phelps. That's like making a Star Trek movie and having Jim Kirk betray the Federation.

EXACTLY! At first I didn't even reallize it was Jim because it wasn't Peter Graves, but then I was like, oh, that's Jim Phelps, wonder why they didn't get Peter Graves. Then I was like...WHAT?! 😤

Have seen all of them. DH is a big fan, he bought them all on DVD, and just saw the new one. He said it had a different feel, but not bad. He likes all of them except the second.
We saw a couple of them at movies back in the day. They're entertaining enough, far fetched like most of those action movies, but entertaining. I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan anymore either.

Seen a few on TV but never gone to the movies to see them. Never been a fan of T. Cruise who has always been a 1-dimensional character in any movie he has ever been in. That 'wise guy' attitude gets old when that is all he seems to be able to do as an actor. They should do the same with Tom they did in the James Bond movies where they brought in younger guys to play the part when Sean Connery had aged out of that role.
