I have an attached garage and it's great. My car doesn't get as cold in winter, no cleaning snow off of it. It wasn't a dealbreaker when we were house hunting, but I am glad we wound up with it.

Growing up, we always had attached garages but they were rarely actually used for cars. They were full of bikes, outdoor equipment, etc. so that you couldn't actually fit a car in.

I have a detached garage, and attached vs detached wasn't really something I thought about when I bought my house. I was just glad to have a garage. I do wish my garage was attached so I could easily get in and out for things without going outside, but it's not the end of the world.

We have a detached 2 1/2 car garage. It wasn’t really a factor which type of garage the house had when we bought it in 1996, because any decent house was selling quickly at that time. Most of the houses in my area have detached garages. While not ideal in the wintertime, I don’t really mind it. It’s just nice to have a garage to keep our cars out of the snow.

We have a 2.5 car attached garage. In the summer all the bicycles, ATV and golf cart are parked in there and in the winter we fit both trucks in there which is ultra nice. No scraping ice and snow off my windshield all winter. At our first house we had a 3 car detached garage which was also nice, but in the winter the walk from the garage to the house could be treacherous, especially when carrying a bunch of groceries. I like the look of a house without a garage better (or at least a side-loading garage instead of front-facing) but prefer the convenience of the attached garage despite that.

CA - Home is 3 car garage, attached. Convenience of walking into kitchen with groceries.
FL - Home is 3 car garage with golf cart parking. We also built extra storage rooms in this garage,
a dog washing area and the entrance into the mudroom & laundry.

Many homes in the Florida area we live in have detached garages with a covered breezeway. That doesn’t work for me hauling groceries and dogs with all of the panhandle storms!

I have an attached garage and a detached pole barn. I use them both for different things, but like having both as options.

I love my attached garage. I do sometimes forget to check the actual weather and then when I get to work and have to trek in from the parking lot, I wish for a coat.

Attached garage and I wouldn't want to live in my house without one unless it was not the main one and was just an additional one. Like we have a house or two in the neighborhood that have 4 car attached garage plus an additional 2 car detached garage with a covered breezeway, that takes a specific shape of a lot. I know one of the homes it was either the 2nd or 3rd owner who actually added the additional detached garage.

Attached 2 car garages at both our places. At the lake, it's helpful to be able to store jet skis and trailers in there. I wish it was a little taller and longer to hold our boat, but at least our storage for that is only a block or so away.

Have always have an attached garage. We have it arranged so that we can grab our beach chairs, umbrella, and other necessities quickly. Also had a huge attached storage area with plenty shelves in our previous home but we significantly downsized and no longer need all of that. Less is more.

Growing up we had an attached garage and every house I have lived in since then has had an attached garage. I have a two car garage and use half for my car and half for storage of trash cans, lawn furniture, etc. A detached garage in Florida means getting soaked when it rains unless your breezeway is completely enclosed. Half the rain here is horizontal! It’s nice to just push a button, pull in, and get into the house with your clothes dry.

Married in 1996 and lived in 2 apartments before buying our 1st home that did NOT have a garage. We made sure to have garages after that. Lived in 8 following homes/townhomes that all had attached garages. We almost bought a home with detached garage once. It's not a deal breaker for us. I feel we will move again. Though with the last couple I said no more moves since it's so hard now with our age (and all the kid and parent moves we've also had to be involved with...I am just over it). But we prob will move again and if its not into a condo then we will be sure to have a garage of any sort...not picky on that. Just need space to keep tools, junk and a car.

We had a detached garage for over 25 years. Years and years of Chicagoland winters and rainstorms - running into the house (or waiting until it passes!).

When we moved to Florida last year, the house we bought has an attached garage. It's such a joy not to have to worry about what's going on with the weather when we leave to go somewhere!

My first two single family houses had detached garages. It really wasn’t a hassle or inconvenience, but I eventually wanted a house with an attached garage and now I do.

Both of the detached garages were for one car only. Current house had a two car, but when both DDs were still living here we could have used a 4 car garage.
