This past weekend my DH and I spent the weekend in Indianapolis, which is the capital of the state we live in. We’ve stayed in Indianapolis before, but we have never explored Indianapolis like a tourist until this past weekend. We took a tour of President Benjamin Harrison’s home, had dinner at the historic St. Elmo’s Restaurant, visited the amazing Indiana War Memorial & Museum and then The Stutz Museum. After this weekend, I want to explore more State Capitals. I’ve been told by many that Springfield, IL is a very good State Capital to visit, so that may be the next one we visit. Now I’m wondering from all of you……..

Have you explored your State’s or Country’s (for those that live somewhere other than USA) Capital?
How many State Capital’s have you explored?
(multiple choice)

*If you’ve explored your State’s or Country’s Capital, please post what that is.

For Me……I have only explored Indianapolis this past weekend. I’ve driven through several State Capitals, but I’ve never explored them.

I've done many school trips to Lansing, our capital.
My youngest lives in Indianapolis

I've been to several other capitals in my life.

Brag moment here: As of a few years back I used to be able to name all the capitals on Sheppard's software in 64 seconds. Any student who could beat me I awarded them with lunch. Two students finally did. :)

I have explored my country's capital (Washington DC) on a vacation, and my own state's capital (Boston, MA) quite a lot. I've been to a couple of places in neighboring state's capitals (Providence, RI & Albany, NY ) but not really "explored" those.

Our state capital is Springfield, Illinois and we have been there twice. Our grade school does an annual trip to Springfield for every 8th grade class. And then we went there as a family for a weekend one year. We also explored Denver's capital.

We have explored a lot of famous historical sites, including Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, Andrew Jackson's Armitage, Colonial Williamsburg and Henry Ford Museum.

I forgot about Washington DC which we totally explored years ago. :)

I’ve explored my state but not the state capital - I’ve done Springfield IL a long time ago and Boston a couple of times ( love Boston ) I enjoy exploring all over !!! I’ve toured my state like a tourist several times !!

Glad you had such a great time and a very Happy Anniversary SLO !!!!

I grew up in the capital of Ohio, so I was very familiar with it. I have not been to Tallahassee since I moved to Florida many years ago. I haven’t had a reason to visit the panhandle yet.

I went to visit Washington DC once for a couple of weeks and did a lot of exploring there.

I agree that Springfield IL would be a great one to visit. We did years ago because I was very interested in Lincoln. I’ve visited our state capitol, Trenton, NJ many times as well as Washington D.C.

I voted 1-5.

I have explored every state's capitol that I've lived in.
Some were with field trips, but most were fairly close and we would go just to do things.
Now I'm in Arizona......Phoenix is 1/2 hour away.
Washington, Olympia was about 2 hours away...not too much exploring there. Not too interesting.
California, Sacramento was about 1 1/2 hours.....lots of field trips, but as an adult there were more interesting things to do on the drive there.

I have not been to WA DC

Adding, I have been to Victoria, BC, Budapest, Amsterdam, London, Vienna, Hamburg.....and spent enough time to explore them.

I’ve been to Ottawa and Edmonton (the capitals of Canada and my home province) and Victoria and Toronto (two other provincial capitals). I’ve also been to Honolulu, Juneau and Oklahoma City, state capitals of Hawaii, Alaska and Oklahoma. I’m not sure what counts as “exploring” and I didn’t go to any of the places specifically because of their political significance.

I think about 6 in the US (Boston, Hartford, Providence, DC, Atlanta, Richmond) and 9 European capitals (Paris, Rome, London, Madrid, Berlin, Dublin, Vatican City, Luxembourg, Brussels)

Most of my time (years ago) in Sacramento was spent at the airport en route here to LA. I did take some road trips with a college friend home going through Sacramento. We did soend tine with her grandma.

I was in Indianapolis on Saturday, too, @slo Glad you had such a great time.

Other than being able to see the Capital from my hotel room, I did not explore it. I went to the zoo, a basketball game and a baseball game instead.

I'm pretty well traveled in the US, but I actually haven't explored that many capitals:
Washington, DC
Annapolis, MD
Columbus, OH
Santa Fe, NM
San Juan, PR
Madison, WI

Edit:
Forgot the capitals in Canada
Quebec City, QC
Toronto, ON

This summer my family is doing a biking/boating tour of the Danube River, so we'll be able to add the following:
Vienna, Austria
Bratislava, Slovakia
Budapest, Hungary

I don't know that I have exllored many state capitals because they are capitals, but I have been to several. I have also been to and explored:

Washington DC
Reykjavik
Tokyo

Really though, Washington DC was the only one I went to because it is the capital. Most things to do around there are centered around that.

Washington, DC once or twice before we moved here. Frequently visit now!

Not many state capitals, went to Harrisburg with my DDs girl scout troop once and probably Columbus with a school group. Have been to Boston. Have lived in Virginia 3 years now but haven't made it to Richmond.

Other country capitals - London, Dublin, Vienna, Budapest, Paris, Amsterdam (one of 2 in the Netherlands)
