Today is the day after The Super Bowl, and lots and lots of people are staying home from work. Today is now known as Super Sick Monday because so many people call off work today. My DH has 5 people that legitimately took today off because of it being the day after The Super Bowl. He’s hoping he doesn’t have others that call off last minute saying they’re sick, which then the majority of his guys won’t be at work today - not good Many people would like to have the Super Bowl be moved to Saturday, to prevent people not going to work on Monday. Others want to have the day after the Super Bowl be declared a holiday (explanation below). So I’m curious today on what your thoughts are about this topic. I’m also curious if you’ve stayed home from work on the Monday after the Super Bowl.

For Me….. I do believe that the Super Bowl should be on a Saturday, I don’t watch the Super Bowl so it doesn’t matter to me either way. My husband doesn’t watch the Super Bowl either, so it doesn’t matter to him too. For those that do enjoy the Super Bowl though, I think it would be nice for them to have the day on a Saturday. It would be good for them to have fun knowing they don’t have to go to work the next day. It’s also definitely good for employers so people will show up for work today. Since I don’t watch the Super Bowl, I’ve never had a reason to call off the day after the Super Bowl. Even if I did watch the Super Bowl, I would still be going to work today because I’m not someone that calls off for that type of stuff. I only call off work if I absolutely most positively cannot go in due to horrible sickness or emergency.

Just my opinion I really don’t have a horse in this race but it’s Saturday would make more sense But maybe they picked a Sunday for a specific reason Even if they made Monday a holiday a lot of places would not give you that day off my place being one of them So it wouldn’t do me any good even if they did declare today a holiday it may not be a holiday for everybody As I don’t get every single holiday on the calendar
Ymmv but my opinion is and it is just my opinion If you can’t get a vacation day and you know you have to go to work and you can’t call in sick You just can’t stay up all night You’re going to work the next day the game ends early enough It’s not like when you go to a concert That you have no control over that date And you are up late

DH and I have been sick all weekend so I was thinking we were talking truly sick this Monday which we are.


When I subbed all those years I knew I always had a job the Monday after Super Bowl which was fine with me,

It would be really awesome if adults could just act like adults and either take it easy on the drinking or just do like I did back in the day and show up to work hungover. It feels bad but, hey I was 21, I got over it.

Anyway, keep it on Sunday. No holiday. Be an adult and accept the consequences of your actions.

Never thought about this before! I would be OK if it were moved to a Saturday.

This did affect me, as my operation was origin Scheduled for today. Someone at the hospital ( Philly area) realized the “problem “ and now I am waiting until later this month for the operation.

Other - I'd be okay if they just got rid of it altogether. Though, in recent years we've made a tradition of going out to eat at restaurants that are normally crowded with long wait times, so that part is nice. And no, I've never been out sick from work after any football or other sports game.

Doesn't really matter to me, we don't watch it although it was on the TV last night. Not sure why hubby turned it on since neither one of us was paying attention to it. I was watching UTube videos with headphones on and he was reading. He doesn't hear real well so I know he wasn't listening to it. As far as people calling in sick and moving it to Saturday because of that. It never happened where I worked but I worked for a tech company and, not to put people in a box, most tech type people aren't really watching sports. I grew up with 5 brothers who did watch and participate in every sport out there and have a son who loves sports so I did grow up with it. I can't imagine any of them calling in sick into work because they watched a game, even if they drunker than Cooter O'Neil (don't know who he was but evidently he got drunk a lot according to my Daddy ) they would still get up and go to work the next day. That might be a generational thing.

I could see how people who live in the Eastern time zone may stay up longer than normal because of the Super Bowl. But the west coast would have plenty of time to recover from their parties.

I don't see any reason to change the Super Bowl to Saturday. They could change the broadcast time to earlier in the day. Then people could get to bed sooner.

I've never taken a day off because of the Super Bowl.

I don’t really watch sports but I do like a Super Bowl party but never go to any because it’s a Sunday night. I’m on the east coast so it’s on late. I would like it if it was a Saturday or it started a little earlier.

I like it on Sunday. Especially if you have kids that play sports, it is typically on Saturdays -- and some of our games/meets are late.
I have legitimately asked off for the Monday after the Super Bowl, but not 100% due to the game. Before they added an additional week, dd's birthday was always close or on Superbowl Sunday.

Always said it should be Saturday for watching/partying purposes BUT .... to get cities to bid for it, has to be Sunday. They want that long weekend revenue, that's what it is all about for them. This gets them Fri Sat Sun hotels (many will require a 3 night stay) and then all that spending that comes with it.

Sunday has always been fine for us. We often have more plans on Saturdays, so we're more free on Sunday. Some years, we go to a party for the game, but often, we just stay home.

And being a Cleveland Browns fan, we've literally never had a rooting interest in the game in my life, I'm not sure what Monday after the Super Bowl with the Browns participating might be like.

I would keep it on Sunday but change to an earlier time, just like in the ancient days of Super Bowls I to like Vi.

We have always been a football watching family. If we have bigger plans for Super Bowl Sunday, I will book the Monday after as a vacation day in advance...assuming it's available. I see no reason to make it a holiday. Just be responsible. If you know you go all out on Sunday, get on the calendar at work ahead of time so that there are no issues.

I also don't want to move it to Saturday, since that's less of an NFL vibe. Not sure how else to describe it, but if you've ever been into NFL football, Sunday really feels like "the day." While you've got Monday night, Thursday night, holidays, as well as some Saturday games as college ball enters bowl season, NFL's big day throughout the regular season is Sunday. So, having the biggest game of the season on a Sunday only seems right to me.
