Many of us have several friends, but do many of us have a best friend? The dictionary defines a best friend as a person’s closest and dearest friend. Share with us today……..

Do you have a best friend?
If yes….. is your best friend a family member or not a family member?
How has your best friend been your best friend?
(Multiple-choice)

For Me……This is a tough one for me. My oldest and dearest friend has been my friend for 51 years, but I don’t consider her to be my “best friend”. Another friend of mine, who’s my DD26’s godfather, used to be my best friend (we’ve been friends for 36 years) but his new wife got weird about it, and I haven’t seen him now for two years, so he’s not my best friend anymore. The only person that I consider my “Bestie” is DD21 - she’s the one that I have the absolute most fun with, and I enjoy being with her more than anyone (no offense to my DH, my DD21 and I just have such a strong connection - we’re like peanut butter and jelly). So my answer today is my best friend is a family member, and she’s been my best friend for about five years, since she’s been about 16 years old.

I guess I have two best friends, because I just couldn’t pick one over the other for this poll. They are my DSis Nancy (Anne) who is 5 1/2 years younger than I, and my friend Beverly, whom I met in kindergarten 70 years ago. In fact, one of my oldest memory is when Bev and I were watching Nancy when she was 2!

I see Nancy much more because we both live in NJ and we have projects together like gardening and our latest project was a calendar for our first cousins, including pictures of their offsprings, our first cousins once removed. Bev lives in FL but I don’t think there’s a day that I don’t think about her. My biggest fear came about right after high school when she entered the convent, but I was so happy when she didn’t last long. ( Because we were close, I worried that maybe I should become a nun too!) We both are Math people, she became a Math Coordinator, I stayed in the classroom.

I have had a few friends for decades and a few close friends for years - some live by me some live across the Pond - I can talk to any of them about anything and vice versus - one has consistently been there for me no matter what - do we go do things together ? No but we can chat for hours and I’ve been there for her during her cancer battle - if she needs me I’m there and if I need her I know she would be there
That’s all that matters !!

I have had different best friends over the years, but through moving and becoming out of touch, I don't have them anymore .

I would now say DD is my best friend. We talk all the time and do things together.
I gave her a trip to Disneyland and she asked me to go with her. I was touched since I can't move around as well as she does. We always have fun together.

And my rock is DH......as we get older, we depend more and more on each other and spend a lot of time together doing things.

My friend, Nancy, and I have been besties for 70 years! I love her like a sister. Our parents moved in next door to each other in 1954. She was almost two and I was almost three. We have never lived more than ten miles from each other. I stood up in her wedding (1971) and she was a bridesmaid for me (1974). Our husbands were friends, too. Sadly, mine passed 16 years ago.

We actually went to a special restaurant this summer to celebrate our 70 years of friendship. It was great. 😁❤️

When I was young...like elementary age...I had a best friend for a while. We drifted apart after I moved across town and was zoned to a different school. After that, I had close friends, but never a singular best friend. DH is probably the closest thing to that right now, but it's different than having a close girlfriend to do all of the things he doesn't like.

I've never really had a best friend. I've had friends to whom I've been close in varying degrees, but I am not sure I understand the concept of "best friend." I mean... How does it work if you choose someone as your best friend, but they choose someone else?

If I had to pick, I'd choose DD31. We hang together, shop together, travel together, laugh together. If I had to choose my most favorite person in the world, I'd choose her.

I almost didn't answer this poll because I am sad that I don't have any best friends outside of my husband and sisters. I had two wonderful friends in high school. We were as close as we could be. But we drifted apart when we headed off to college. I haven't been able to connect with anyone that could be called a best friend since then. But at least I have my family. :)

I really don't think of my closest friends as besties!
The 4 women closest to me are all very different.
in order of those I've known the longest:
My sister she is 10.5 yrs younger than me. We have always gotten along. For the last few years we have spent much more time together. Life changes have made it easier to do so!
I have known friend A for over 40 years. We played on a softball team together spondsered by a local bar in our early 20's and have been friends since.
I have known friend B for 35 years, we worked together and she moved away for a long time and came back but we always stayed in touch during the years. I visited her once and she always was in town at least once a year to visit her family. I would consider her to be the person I am closest to.
My friend C I have only known for roughly 10 years. We live far apart but have chances to see each other when she comes back to visit family and we talk on the phone about every 6 weeks or so. Our husbands were in the trades together, plus I've known her husband since I was 16. The 4 of us have a good time together!
Of these 4, I share the same political views as 2. With the other 2 it's more of a " we don't talk or discuss such matters". Sometimes though, their beliefs come thru and the prejudices come out and I may gently say something to the effect that " you know, I don't feel the same way" and we move on.

*** I love my daughter to the moon and back. But I can't say we are good "friends". We get along fine and do things together once in awhile, plus she lives under my roof with my grandson. I'm "mom" and that's where I'm staying.

It's wonderful thing to get along with your siblings! Amazingly, I know of too many persons who do not! You are fortunate.

Different friends have been more prominent at different times in my life, but I don't think I'd say I have a "best" friend right now.
This sums it up for me, too. There are times in my life where I'd say I had a best friend... and, for the most part, I'm still friends (or at least friendly) with those people, but as life changes, so do friendships. I don't think I have a best friend right now, althought I do have several good friends.
