Fish Frys can be a lot of fun, even if you don’t like fish - good food, good company - always a great time. Many people associate fish frys with Lent, but that’s not true, fish frys are year round. So how about you? Tell us today…….

Have you gone to a fish fry?
If yes……were you a guest, host or was it a public fish fry?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I have been to fish frys. My neighbor does one once or twice a year (he’s having one tonight, which is what inspired this poll) and I’ve also been to one at my church during Lent. I enjoy them - they are always a lot of fun.

I've been to a couple. My DH's company used to host one sometimes.
I was obligated to go. I don't like fish.

I have this irrational fear of fish... so I don't like to eat fish, or even look at live ones :rotfl2:

However, I will go to a fish fry for the social aspect because stuff like that is fun. I will just find something besides fish to eat.

I love fish fries!!

I've been to open-to-the-public ones we paid a ticket price for, and as a teen, I waitressed a few for the American Legion Post my Dad belonged to. (I guess that counts as a guest, since the volunteers ate for free.)

Never been to one - they are mainly around for Lent here and do very good business selling fish - radio DJs show up and broadcast from different churches
I have done lobsters at my house and cooked fish - always insist that be done outside as I don’t want the house smelling like fish

Love fish, hardly ever eat it, and have never been to a fish fry.

I love a fish fry! Around here, they have them at large church picnics not just through Lent but through the summer, as well. The entire community generally gets involved, not just the church, so it's a great place to socialize with lots of different people. And I do love fried fish and all the sides, as well.

I've never hosted one but I've been a guest to several over the years. Always good food and a good time with friends!

I have been to fish fries for Lent. I am not a fan. I do not like fish (at all) and everything at fish fries tastes (or at least smells) like fish. Blech. My parents used to make us eat fish every Friday for Lent and it was like torture. (I was quite a bit older when I realized that the rule is "no meat" not "must eat fish." There are plenty of vegetarian meals I enjoy, but somehow we were always forced to eat fish. I might have a little childhood trauma from that!)

Give me a good spaghetti dinner (even with no meat) as a fundraiser any day. That's something I can enjoy!

I’ve never been to one and I’m not really sure what it is. I’m guessing it’s regional? Is it like a lobster boil? We have those in New England.

Edit: The Google tells me it’s a Midwest tradition, so it appears to be regional.

All you can eat fish fry Friday is ubiquitous in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I have been to....many. I adore them!

I've seen lots of signs for them, but never been to one! Which is odd because one of DH's favorites is fish and chips.

I voted "Other". I'm from Maryland, we don't tend to do fish frys, we eat different sea creatures here. In the next two months, there will be tons of "Bull & Oyster Roasts" and "Crab Feasts".

My church is doing a bull & oyster roast - that's pit beef (like rare roast beef) and raw oysters.

And my son's high school, DH's American Legion Post and our local swimming pool club are all separately doing crab feasts.

It will all be lots of fun with socializing, bingo, raffles, etc.

Been to them over the years. A number during Lent at local churches. One golf course near us has them regularly. And then some in Door County on vacations.

Not really a fish fry as such, but all you can eat fish on Friday at a few local restaurants and bars. I do like the fish and the sides, typically fries and cole slaw.

Absolutely never heard the term 'Fish Fry' before. Is it the piscine version of a bbq? It's conjuring up images of having a fryer like the one's in our fish and chip shops in your back garden!

Love them - our neighbor will sometimes host one when him and his son have had a good day fishing on a weekend (either walleye or catfish). And we usually go to the parish one during Lent once a season.
