Owning a boat is a lot of fun this time of year. On a nice day you can go out alone or with friends and family and enjoy the peacefulness of being on the water - many great memories can be made on boats. There’s many different types of boats out there, so I’m going to keep it simple this morning. Let’s sail into our answer today….

Do you currently own a boat?
If yes…..what type do you own?
If no…..have you owned one in the past?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I have never owned a boat and we’ll never own a boat. I think they’re great, but we would never use it enough to justify the amount of money we’d spend on it. I know people by me that have a boat and they’ve only used it a few times this year, and since I know we’d be the same way, it’s best to not have it. If I had extra money to burn, I’d rather use it for travel.

Yes, we own a boat. Just bought it last fall from a neighbor of ours so this is our first summer with it. We love having it and have gotten a lot of use out of it so far. We have a weekend house on Lake Erie with a dock right outside our back door so it’s really easy to hop on it to go for a ride, take our kids wakeboarding or tubing or just to go and head to a beach.

No boats here, Sandy. Like you, would never use enough and too much work. Years back, very good friends of ours (now both deceased) had a summer home. They had a speedboat for many years and then a pontoon boat in later years. I could see the maintenance involved. We did enjoy many boat rides over the years.

I do not own a boat, but my uncle does, so we sometimes go out on it when we visit. I definitely enjoy it, and would think about owning one if we lived on the water. But for right now, it's not in the plan.

We have an inflatable kayak. I think the last time it was used was more than thirty years ago. We really need to get rid of it. ;)

No, but I'd like to get a real kayak. Like @Wood Nymph we also had an inflatable "kayak" years ago, which was really more like a small inflatable rowboat, and after one/two uses we never blew it up again. Threw it out when we moved.

We used to have a small jet boat. We live about 45 min. from Lake Oconee in Georgia and when we owned the boat we would take it out just about every weekend. We stored it there at the marina. When we decided to start scuba diving, we sold it. Can't have two expensive hobbies at one time. We did enjoy it while we had it, in hindsight, I wish hubby had boat a bigger type boat since we really just used it to ride around the lake a fish from. We had to stop diving when we got our little Yorkie because she can't be boarded for even stay with family since she is very much dependent on her people and won't eat. Now we own a 5th wheel RV so we can go places and take her with us.

I'm not much of a water person so I've never longed for owning a boat or really doing anything boating related. I have enough issues getting around on land, I don't need to add water to the mix.

We also have two jet skis (we bought those right after we bought the house) and a pair of kayaks too (another purchase from a different neighbor who wasn't using them). We love all our water toys.

We had a boat more than 10 years ago. It sunk during a hurricane the bilge pump failed (it was docked a few miles from our apartment) and that was the end of that. Because we realized it's better to have a friend with a boat than than to own our own.
We did have a lot of fun with it though and our English bulldog loved laying on the swim platform (life jacket of course). Plenty of shade in the front cabin for him and tons of water. We kept those trips short. Otherwise we would usually dock at Fire Island (NY) and spend the day.

I voted no, we don’t own a boat but I forgot we do have my grandfather’s flat bottomed fishing boat. It hasn’t been used in many years. As a kid I went fishing with Grandpa many times over the years, and the last time he ever went out in that boat was when he and Grandma were moving into a senior living apartment. He had emphysema quite bad (he had smoked since he was 14) and I rowed the boat out for him as he didn’t have the breath capacity for it.

Had ski boat (and camper) for years. Spent many weekends on lake camping, skiing and having a good time. :rolleyes1

When we moved to NYC area we sold it, that was decades ago.

DH will every so often tease about a boat ~ to which I give a resounding NO NEVER!

He can visit his brother and his boats and fish all he wants, he can go to the lake with my sister's family on their boat and ski & float all he wants, he can pay a charter if he really wants ... but we will never sink good money after bad on a boat.

My ex husband and I had a ski boar.. We were in our mid-twenties and it was fun to take it out with friends on weekends. The darn thing needed repair work every time you turned around, though.

Yes, we have a Boston Whaler. LOVE IT. My husband grew up in an area where you got around by boating not driving. His first “car” was a boat.

We have never owned a boat, but my parent’s friends had one. They used to take us out in the Gulf and through the Intercoastal Waterway to islands only accessible by boat.
