Never heard of it until we reserved a hall for our wedding reception on 10\16\99. It was that or Oct 23 and that is my ex husband's birthday. All was good until we started shopping florist. Luckily we found one and now 26 years later we are still together and still not celebrating it, lol. It does stink when our anniversay falls on and everything is packed. We went to dinner last night and no sweetest day crowd but the Cincinnati Bengals had a home game so even our nicer dinner place was full of fans in white Bengals gear. We found it funny. Yes, they won!
I’m in the Great Lakes region & have a very romantic husband, so I guess that’s why we celebrate, lol. I have finally convinced husband that expensive florist bouquets aren’t necessary tho. So today he brought me beautiful roses from the local grocer, I got him Russel Stoffers mixed candy. We’re going to dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant. I’ll use any excuse to go out to dinner.
When we picked Oct 17 for our wedding day in 1987, we had no idea it was Sweetest Day, another stupid made-up holiday. Had a little difficulty finding a reception venue! (coincidentally, we got married in Cleveland, where I grew up)
For those that don’t know, I live in NW Indiana and very close to Chicago. I’m watching the Chicago news this morning and one anchor mentioned Sweetest Day today and the other anchors had no idea what she was talking about. Now for my curiosity I’m going to start asking people that live by me if they heard of it. I know my neighbors have - their anniversary is today and because it falls on Sweetest Day this year they are going out of town for the weekend. This has been a very interesting poll.
