I get what you’re what saying. And I am seriously not one of those paranoid conspiracy theorists. I am truly one of the most practical minded people you could meet. But there has always been a 7 second delay…not two full minutes like they were talking about prior to it. There has also always been reporters and usually an audience allowed. I see no reason they had to change to change that. People already don’t trust the government or the media and doing things like this especially for a Presidential debate just adds fuel to the fire to add to add that mistrust. If anything, it should be as open as possible to alleviate any doubts on both sides due to all the mistrust on both sides.
Well, the 7 second forced delay came out in the early to mid 2000s, and is a result of the DTV transition. In the analog world, even something coming from satellite was sub one second.

As far as the audience, I think that was planned by the Dems (who issued the challenge), as a way to prevent Trump from "feeding" off the crowd, and possibly to keep the audience from drowning out Biden's responses with cheering and catcalls. Agree or disagree with that decision, but the candidates both agreed.

Once there was no audience and it was decided to be held in a TV studio, there's not enough room for all of the reporters covering. So how do you (organizer) decide which reporters to allow? If you've never seen the amount of press following a candidate, much less two, you might be surprised.

Again, any kind of "live editing" would/should be pretty obvious to someone watching the feed.

~ I did not watch, DH did.
~ I can get highlights afterwards.
~ I liked the mic turnoff, if I were watching I'm watching to hear what people say, not to listen to them talk over each other.
~ I understand why there was no audience but I think it would have been better for candidates and hosts to have an audience. They could have been instructed clapping only, no speaking/shouting ... it's not their place.
~ Audiences bring an energy to the room.
~ Few moments I saw of commentators I think they failed, they were boring, they didn't have command and not sure what their goal was.
~ WHY did we need a debate let alone any more?
~ Neither are a stranger to ANYONE and no need to learn what they are about.
~ Won't change my vote at all.
