In honor of Dia de los Muertos, let’s discuss who’s celebrating and who has Mexican heritage.

Many of us became familiar with this Mexican holiday when the movie Coco was released (if you haven’t seen it, please do so - it’s great). I know before I saw Coco, I didn’t know anything about this holiday since I have no Mexican blood in our family (I’m 50% Swedish & 50% Hungarian). How about you? Give us your very colorful and festive answer today……

Do you celebrate Dia de los Muertos?
Do you have any Mexican heritage and if yes….how much?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..I have no Mexican heritage and I don’t celebrate Dia de Los Muertos. I am Catholic and today is a Holy Day of Obligation (All Saints Day) and I will be Lectoring at Mass tonight.

No Mexican heritage here but want to say my middle DS and wife just got back from visiting a good friend in Mexico City. They were here this past weekend and shared all their many beautiful pics of the city.

Btw...I used to celebrate All Saint's Day when going to Concordia University. :)

I had never heard of this holiday until Coco came out. We saw a wonderful collection of ofrendas when we were visiting our daughter in Colorado. It looks like a great festival, though.

My mother had a brother who was half Mexican but that’s the end of any known connection with the country that I’m aware of.

I have no Mexican heritage. I have heard of Dia De Los Muertos. I have yet to clean up from Halloween, probably won't be doing much to celebrate the holiday. I remember going to some kind of festival several years ago, it was really cool and fun.

100% irish. Like so many Christian holidays, All Saints Day was put on Nov 1 to counteract the ancient Celtic celebration of Samhain.

I don't have any Mexican heritage in my family and don't celebrate Dia De Los Muertos unless this counts? 🤣

No & No. Seems like an interesting tradition though. :)

Coco was eye-opening for me as well. I have my students to thank for introducing me to it and the history. Absolutely love it. We don't celebrate it but I've become more conscious of displaying relatives' photos in our home and keeping their memories alive.

No and no... I think it's beautiful though!! My dad, who was my best friend, passed in 2020. Halloween was his favorite holiday so this time of year is really hard for me. I think the concept of Dia de Los Muertos would be nice to celebrate in his honor - maybe it could help with the grief.

I do not celebrate it nor do I have any Mexican heritage, but I do love the movie Coco!

I enjoyed the movie Coco so very much and think the celebration is lovely.

In my Catholic tradition, November 2, is All Souls’ Day, and traditionally, I have gone to Mass to remember my loved ones who have died. This year, I am in hospital waiting for news on my own health. I will say extra prayers tomorrow.

We don’t celebrate, but we do have a few Dia de los Muertos decorations on display inside.

Here’s one

No Mexican heritage.
I'm not doing anything special.
DD, DH and the grand kids are going to a rooftop movie to watch Coco tonight. (I do love that movie)

Mostly Irish and German, but have some other European/Scandinavian, and also a sliver of South Pacific Islander in me, but I love Coco and love to celebrate when I’m at DisneyIand. :)
