Planning to get Magicbands for our trip and I heard at one point that DL started giving out the plastic slider things to help hold them on if you asked for one.
Is that still happening or should I buy some from Amazon?
I don't know...I haven't heard that. But I did buy a packet from Amazon before my last trip. Worked great and they weren't expensive.
Edited to add: I just now found these on Amazon. Some slider bling with Disney magic! I'm not sure if they'd work to keep your band from coming off but they're sure cute. Looks like they were intended for Apple watches.
I've never seen them as a giveaway at DLR, so I don't know about that.
But, you can get a package of them cheaply on Amazon. Or there are some cute Disney ones on Etsy as well. (I got one that says 'Foolish Mortal' on etsy.)

I hadn't thought of checking Etsy! Aside from the band sliders, people also make Magicband puck holders for your smart watch. I hadn't even thought of that, but I think that's the route my wife and I will take.
We use bit bands for ours. Hard to get them on, but I lost my Main Street electrical parade one on Soarin of all rides so I’ll take the Spanx-like struggle to get them on and secure.
I also bought a puck-holder necklace and charging adapter for my daughter on Etsy (tons of themes and options available). Both of these items have worked well for our family.
The magic sliders are too loose on the newer MB+ bands. I bought some from yourwdwstore and they didn’t do much. I use neon hair elastic bands and take backup.
Disney no longer makes official ones, though my WDW 50th band did come with a special one. They did used to sell sliders and little charms for the extra holes (at WDW), but that was discontinued. If you do want one or feel that you need one, third-party is the way to go.
Tip: Keep your MB+ fastened (circular) when not in use. MB+ are made of a stiffer plastic than the old MBs and want to straighten out; keeping it fastened will "train" it to stay in the circular orientation, less likely to spring open.
The only sliders given away by Disney were for DVC members only. And I believe those are now long gone. Another vote for Bitbelts on Amazon, never had issues with a regular MB coming open, but I did with the MB+. Worth the money to buy them.
