It's official now. As a birthday present of sorts for Disneyland, it was announced today that the Sleeping Beauty walkthrough in the castle will be reopening before December of this year as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney's classic film.

The walkthrough will be restored to the 1957 version of the attraction when the walkthrough opened a full 2 years before the film was released. It will be updated to show off some new technology.

Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough Reopening

As a huge Sleeping Beauty fan, this news really excites me. I loved being able to walk through the castle as a little boy. As a Disneyland fan, this is even more exciting because it gives me hope that Disneyland will bring back some other attractions that have left over the years. I know the park needs to keep updating and so forth, but it also needs to stay very true to what Walt put in the park.

So, it's a good day. :dance3: :yay: :cool1: :woohoo:

I knew I shouldn't have tried to look for the old thread discussing this :rotfl: .

That's great. I missed it being there and I couldn't even remember when they took it out. How long had Sleeping Beauty been gone from DL? It is one of those things that I always took for granted as being there, only to discover that it was gone one day!

They closed it down after September 11 out of security concerns. I guess they've figured out a way to alleviate those or they had "other" reasons for closing it down.

I also wonder if the recent boom in popularity of princesses, including Aurora, got them thinking about the benefit of bringing it back.

It's not that I doubt the magic, but rather I doubt the veracity of everything I read on the internet. According to the internet, the Haunted Mansion Holiday should have left Disneyland years ago, and it's still there. POTC was supposed to be turned into an attraction based on the movie that was entirely different at nighttime than during the daytime.

So I take the approach of I'll believe when Disney announces it. That way I can't be disappointed. If it never comes true, than it's just another rumor that never happened. But when Disney announces it, than I know it's true, so I can get really excited because it is happening, and not merely hoping that it might happen.

So true, some people are convinced that there is a loop in Space Mountain because they have read it on the internet. :sad2:

What it boils down to for me is the source. Al Lutz (the person who initially reported the reopening a few weeks back) is pretty darn accurate with his reporting over on MiceAge. I normally give him benefit of the doubt as he has very reputable connections within the Disney corporation.

Also, seeing the construction walls up in June and talking with two different CMs in the park that confirmed the rumor had me convinced.

I am thrilled at this news! I can't wait to hear an opening date!

Ok between this and Tink M&G I'm really bummed that we didn't renew our AP's. BUT it gives us good reason to come back!! Woo Hoo!!! I'll be planning a trip for 2009 soon I'm sure! :) Thanks for the update!

Our AP'S expire Dec. 29th, so I will be hoping it opens before then!

At the El Capitan panel discussion on the film Sleeping Beauty, Tony Baxter was talking about the walkthrough and said, "Before the last leaves of autumn fall, Sleeping Beauty will awake again within the castle walls. Of course this is California, so that could be January."

I've read that they're hoping to open it in mid-November, but that date is internet source, and is no way, shape, or form confirmed as official by Disney.

I am definately going to cross my fingers for mid-November! This will be the 5th trip for my kids and DH to DL, and they have never seen it! It is, like many have said before me, one of the precious memories from my childhood that it will be wonderful to share with them! :cool1:

What is the Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough?

Inside the castle, there used to be an exhibit where guests could walk-through and see the story of Sleeping Beauty. However after the 9/11 attacks, they closed down the walk-through as a safety measure and also because it could not accommodate the handicapped. Fortunately, later this year they will be re-opening it all brand new, along with a separate experience for the handicapped similar to what is over at Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.

Please post if anyone gets to go inside it! I need to know when it is open so I can get down there before my pass expires!! :upsidedow
