I have reason to think I have sleep apnea-DH (strongly) suggested it last week. Between us, we've identified that I have every symptom. One of the suggestions is weight loss. Since I can't seem to get motivated to lose weight (I know I'm at least 20 lbs. overweight), I'm really hoping it helps. Boy, I'd love to be less tired! And DH would love to return to sleeping in the Bedroom every night. So, has anyone else here had trouble with sleep apnea, trouble that was cured or seriously reduced by losing weight? I need to hear from you!

Hi Simba's Mom. I don't have this problem, but my DH does. He is actually going to have surgery for the apnea, but the doctor told him that losing weight would help greatly too. He's about 20 lbs over weight and is starting to watch what he eats and has lost a bit. The snoring part of the apnea seems a bit better, but that might have something to do with the nasal spray he uses everynight before bed. Good luck, and don't mess around with the apnea...get it diagnosed. Its not just an annoyance, but its also dangerous. When DH's dr sent him home with a monitor, his resting pulse, while sleeping, was 101 and his blood oxygen levels were very low.

Weight loss will help if you do have Sleep Apnea. Do as much as you can, and this is coming from someone who has a severe form. The things out on the market may help, like the BreatheRight Strips, but for a long term solution weight loss is the key. You don't want to be on a C-PAP unit and surgery is not a thing for everyone.
