You must be prepared for the fact that there may be no availability for the dates you want. Given that there isn't anything there now, if you are going to find something it likely won't be until the very last minute.
I would go ahead and reserve something you can live with. Just make sure you are not locked in - you must be able to cancel the reservation. Then if somethng comes along on SkyAuction, you can cancel and go with that instead. The first order of business is to ensure you have a room you will be happy with if SkyAuction doesn't work out for you.
