The more I look at Skyauction the better it looks to me but my son who is an e bay auction fanatic says he would be leary of it. I would like to hear experiences both good and bad. I am set for my trip this year but boy wouldn't it be great to get two weeks for under 1000 next year! what are the pros and what are the cons. I would not look at any feedback on the site because I do not think they would be unbaised.

Hi Bella,

My DH was skeptical of Skyauction at first as well, as he also ebays quite a bit as a buyer. But we have since done 3 Skyauction transactions (one was for friends who have yet to go, the other 2 were for 2 consecutive weeks at Orange Lake for us last Dec.) and we are sold.

The pros: great deals and our transactions have run smoothly so far.
The cons: availability isn't as great as it was last year...some of the better resorts no longer come up; once you win your bid and pay you are locked into those dates (supposedly no changes or cancellations are possible, though maybe a particular resort would be accomodating); almost impossible to find availability for busiest weeks (though we did get Christmas week last year!).

Good Luck!

For the off-season it is great...

Do your reseach here beforer bidding to make sure the resort you are bidding on is a good one and go for it...Great rates...Cheaper than a bad motel and lots of space.

We have doen Skyauction for 4 visits and have nothing but good to say about them but one resort was a bit off but that was the resorts fault not skyauction...

Love SKYAUCTION...

maybe I should say we hate it so nobody else would use them and I could get all the good resorts but that would be mean....

Thanks
PBS, I know what you mean my husband always says do not tell them how great this place or that is then we will never be able to go back but that would be mean after all lots of us depend on the information we gain on these boards and if we want to get good info we need to give it.

HI. We've recently started using skyauction and just got back from a week at Hilton Head Island in a super 2 bedroom villa for 1/2 of what we could find through a private owner or agency. For this October we just won a ready, set, go auction for $41 for Cypress Pointe Grand Villas, 2 bedroom which means lots of space for $251 for the entire week. I posted a few days ago about it. My sister won a bid per night auction but when the hotel didn't have availability for her specific night, skyauction didn't even charge her credit card. They really worked with her to try to get the date she needed. So very good experiences here for both of us!

I've used sky auction 3 times. Twice for Williamsburg and once for Disney. Great experiences each time. I couldn't believe that I could get
a nice 2 bedroom condo for $250-$260 week but that's just what happened. But as the previous poster said, some of the better places aren't coming up as much and I think more people use skyauction and it is harder to get the places as inexpensively as before.

skyauction is run by RCI - the exchange company - it is good - if they can't fill what you want - your money is returned - no problems.

just be sure to bet on the timeshares (7 days) not the hotel (1 to 14 days ) - these are generally not a bargin. Some timeshares are listed on skyauction like the hotels - so read the posting carefully.

If you win an auction, but the hotel does not have availabiility for the nights you require, what happens then? I have seen some places come up that I wouln't mind staing at, but we only have four nights and they are specific dates. Also, i have seen some that are also timshare presentations, but they seem to be oly for US states. Do they ever have any that Canadians can bid on? Any help would be appreciated, I have just discovered this site, through this board. It sounds great.

dennise

you do not have to use the full compliment of 7 days.....

we have done it before where we have used 5 or 6 days of the total 7 days.....the resort does not really care if you check out early,

so if you see something which falls into the "timeframe" you are thinking of .....try it....

you can bid on US auctions even if you are in Canada

they do have some canadian places but not many

Dennise,

If you mean, as Canadian are we allowed to go the Timeshare presentations, yes we can the only ones that can't are the Quebecer.

And not all the auctions you win with skyaution do you HAVE to attend a presentation. Just the ones that say " a Timeshare Promo"
We can bid on anything auctions.
I've booked many trips with them, and love it!
