Skipper Canteen - Walk ups

I am very interested in going to Skipper Canteen on our arrival day but I don't want to make an ADR just in case of travel delays, etc.

Are walk-ups likely to be available for a late lunch? Our trip is early March, if that makes any difference.

You should have no problem. Even if there is a wait they will text you when your table is ready so you can go do something else.

I have been looking, and it seems they reserve times between 5:30 and 7:30 or 8pm for walk-ups. I looked in the next week and 180 days out, and some times in between, and couldn't find an available ADR during that time. I think this is a nice compromise between those that like to plan and those that are more flexible.

We enjoyed it in December. I really liked the sustainable fish in lemongrass broth. It was very flavorful and a really nice light meal compared to the other heavy we had been eating all week. The dumplings were good too. DH liked the Skipper mac n cheese. We will be going back this summer. Not everyone dislikes it.

Exactly. Just like every other restaurant, there are fans and detractors. I wouldn't let the detractors keep me from trying a restaurant I was interested in.

We were able to walk up for lunch and only waited five minutes. Not sure about dinner but if you are willing to wait I don't see why not.

1) Yep.
2) Some like it, others do not, and many are ambivalent.
3) Count me in the last category.
4) For the price and the newness, I expected better . . . far better.

MY wife and I ate at Skipper's Canteen in early April of last year. I was not particularly fond of the food, to spicy for my tastes. The menu seemed limited to me for the same reason. The décor was nice and waiters try to add some entertainment value, but I would not recommend the restaurant.
