My son is 12 and I have started to notice some Whiteheads on his nose. I need to get him some skin care products. Someone recommended sephora. I just looked it up and its $ 20-35 just for the cleanser.

I need budget friendly recommendations.

My son uses Clearasil Ultra pads. We've tried cleansers designed for acne, but they seem to dry his skin out too much. Just make sure he has a gentle face soap (just saw an ad for Neutrogena as I'm typing this) and then something like the Clearasil pads. If the acne gets bad, a dermatologist is your best bet. My DS has been on antibiotics for about two years, and it's made a huge difference -- and because he uses an older, generic medication (Bactrim), we actually get it for free at Meijer. He also has a prescription cream (Epiduo), which offers a card to get a discount on your copay, making it $30, but I think he's had this tube for 6 months, so the cost isn't too bad. We had tried that system they advertise on TV (I'm having a senior moment right now and can't come up with it), and it worked terrific to start with, but after about 6 weeks the acne came back, and I've heard from many other people that they had the same experience. Almost like the skin gets resistant to it.

I love the body shop products. They have a tea tree line that is good for acne. There are cleansers, masks, lotions, toners, and oil for spot treatment. Between using those and some other masks for deep cleaning - my skin has never looked so good!

Also - drinking lots of water instead of other beverages with lots of chemicals will help a lot.

I like the AcneeFree product line available anywhere and similar to Proactiv. I use this product. Unfortunately I'm a lot older than a teen:)

Sea Breeze. Very easy to get a boy using it as it only requires they wet a cotton swab or tissue swipe their face with it once or twice a day. It's inexpensive too, about $5 a bottle and a bottle will last a month or more.

Well I use the oxy wipes once a day and they work great for me, my little brother just started having this problem too so we've started him on the oxy wipes as well

My DS13 likes Oxy Clinical. We received a sample in the mail of the new line. He really liked it. I just bought the full sizes yesterday.

My dermatologist recommended Aveeno (you can find it at the any drugstore, target, etc.) It is super mild for a first timer. I got it for my 12 year old who has just started having the same things. I have him wash his face daily when he is in the shower...just hand wash his face, no washclothes and no scubbing.

I seconds the Aveeno. It's very gentle and doesn't smell "girly". I started my oldest DS with it years ago and now my youngest DS is just getting in the habit.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I guess my situation is more preventative care. I just started to see a few whiteheads and figured it was time for him to start washing his face to prevent pimples or acne. I am going to look into getting him a wash for the shower and also cleansing pads for at night.

What about moistureizer?

My kids and myself have always used Witch Hazel. Cost about 1.50 and use it on a cotton ball. Can't get more budget than that.

My mother and grandmother always did this too. Here is a link that talks a little about it.

Check out the stuff on acne.org his regimen works great. Especially notice the process.

I finally got Proactive for my DD15 when he got full blown acne. We tried other stuff and it didn't work. The Proactive has made a huge difference.

My ds uses Clearasil Stayclear Daily Face Wash. I bought him the sensitive skin type and he seems ok with it. He's only had a couple of whiteheads that I've noticed.

DS 11 uses the Neutrogena system in the orange box and it really helps (when he uses it...) in fact I can tell when he hasn't been - once he starts at it again, his face clears up quickly. You can sometimes find coupons for it on their website.
