DD is 12 now and starting to have a few skin problems- mostly blackheads, but a few pimples. We are looking for a good skincare product line for her. Can anyone make any recommendations? She is using Clean and Clear face wash, but I was wondering about moisturizer, toner, etc. Don't really know WHAT she needs (skin care was NOT on my mother's list of 'important things to teach your daughter'), but she has beautiful skin right now, although it is fairly sensitive. Unfortunately her skin/hair she seems to inherit from her dad's side of the family- greasy/oily hair and skin, need to shampoo every other day, and most of his family has had acne. ANy suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

keep stuff mild. you don't want to pile on the products and make her skin over sensitve or prone to more breakouts. (it's GOING to happen...we all went through bouts of breakouts around that age...)

The clean and clear line is good...I personally use the foaming facial cleanser in the shower every morning...and Persagel 10 for breakouts (might be strong for her...the 'clear' clean and clear gel stuff is pretty gentle.)

For a good, dermatologist reccommended facial cleaner/moisturizer - Cetaphil. (generic brand works just as well) I don't really remember when I started using "moisturizer"...I guess if her skin feels tight after washing, she should be using some.

HOpe that helps.

ETA - Toner is worthless...even most skin care people will say toner isn't needed. I remember using that "Sea Breeze astringent" when I was a teen...did nothing but BURN my face. hehehe

My teens' dermatologist recommended the Cetaphil line of products. They seem to work well. If your child has persistent acne (hope she doesn't get it), some doctors also have them take a low dosage of antibiotics and use a topical cream or gel like Bactrin (I think that's the name).

After being on Retin-A for almost a year with no success, I switched from grocery store type acne products to Clinique when I was 14 and it made a world of difference. Much better than Retin-A ever did for me. So I still use them for most of my facial care products.

I love Philosophy, not sure if they have a teen line. Also, when she starts wearing makeup or if she does, I would buy good makeup, not the cheap stuff. I personnaly love Bare Escentuals line.

Whatever skin products she ends up using, now is a good time to emphasize sunscreen every single day. I've never used clean and clear products, but on their website they list a "Morning Glow" moisturizer that is oil-free and has SPF 15. She will thank you when she is 30!!!!

Serious Skin Care from HSN.com (I also can usually find some on EBAY) totally changed my skin for the better. They also have a good shampoo for acne-prone scalp and oily hair.
I wish I'd had it all those years ago when I was a teen. I bought the starter kits for the kids next door and they love it too.

Cetaphil didn't work at all on my daughter. She is currently using proactive and after about 3 weeks she doesn't have one pimple on her face. My daughter tends to get cyclical acne and I don't know if it is treated differently than constant acne or not. We also tried the serious skin care from HSN which is in comparasion MUCH stronger than proactive but I know with skin care than stronger doesn't always mean better.

Good Luck, I know how stressed out one pimple can make a teenage girl..:(

Im 13 and was on neutragina. But I would recomend taking her to a derm. They can get her on Diffrin. I am on it and it works good!

My 13 y.o. dd was starting to have a few spots - I took her to see a dermatologist & he recommended Nuetrogena Acne Face Wash. After a few weeks use, her skin cleared up & now she very rarely has a break out.

I used proactive all through highschool when I started breaking out badly, and it worked wonders for me and my siblings. I second the sunscreen!!!
